LED obviously, plasma is good but doesnt last nearly as much as LED tech since its a gas.
LCD sucks

*face palm*
LCD sucks? Those TV's that are advertised as LED? News flash. They are LCD panels. The difference is that the light behind them is now LED.

You'd have thought the thread title would have given enough hints.....

Plasma is very very bad. Stay away....farrrrr away.

PLASMA is the better option.

The best HDTV today is the LED Sharp Elite PRO-X5FD but it price is absurd ($4,599.00 - $5,499.95)... the second best HDTV today is the PLASMA Samsung PND8000 way more cheaper ($1,999.99 - $2,699.99).

After that two tvs all the other is PLASMA.

3. PLASMA Panasonic TC-PST50 ($1,448.18 - $1,600.00)
4. PLASMA Samsung PND7000 ($1,767.00 - $2,197.00)
5. PLASMA Panasonic TC-PVT30 ($2,297.00)

So there are just one LED HDTV better than PLASMA nad it's too expensive.

We need our screen experts to post here. Last time I think plasmas were proven to be better.

Does anybody know anything about 2012 year's models from Samsung (LED) and Panasonic (plasmas)?

For 2012 the Samsumg (PLASMA) is better than  Samsung (LED) or Panasonic (PLASMA).

a very good led is best followed by plasma followed by lcd

to illustrate I have a samsung led d8000 which is incredible but the cheper samsung plasma I picked up at the same time for the living room (about a 1/rd the price) isn't as far behind as you might think. Both are quite a bit better than the lcd I still have but that now lives in my daughters room.

The Samsumg D8000 PLASMA is better than the  Samsumg D8000 LED.

Today yet PLASMA is better than LED... just one LED TV is better than all the others (Sharp Elite PRO-X5FD).

I didn't know this was still a debate. Plasma looks better than LCD but suffered reliability issue in exchange. LED is in simple terms LCD that can output the darks that plasma can, so best of both worlds. Not all LEDs are the same though, OLED is great, figure out the difference between edge lit and backlit because one is better, edge lit I believe?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

You had a plasma TV, but since it is an older model I'll say it anyways.

I play on a 50' plasma TV bought this year and as far as gaming is concerned the images change enough so you rarely notice burn-in. You need a really long time of a fixed image (over 2 hours, I think) to even move out of warranty coverage, at least here where I live, so yeah. Also, today morning I watched the Bahrain GP and it took like 10 seconds for the burn-in of the lap count in the top of the screen to fade away, so I don't see why porn should cause you any issues, lol.

And yeah, they have faster response times, higher refresh rates and better collors, but also consume a lot of energy and shed so much infrared that I heard it could be an issue for playing Wii, due to the sensor bar, though I haven't had issues like that while playing Pandora's tower.

If you have the money, go for a Samsung or Bravia LED, but for me plasmas offer the best bang for the buck.

Backlit LED LCDs are better than Edge-lit.

It's up for debate because despite the huge advancements in quality that LED backlighting provides over traditional LCD displays, plasmas are still widely regarded among the experts as having better picture quality.

OP:  Check out this link and do your own research on this site; these guys know their shit and have done extensive testing on these TVs with a variety of content and in multiple lighting conditions.

http://www.hometheater.com/content/do-you-prefer-plasma-or-lcd-tvs

One test I read about in particular a while back was a movie with a space scene.  Watching it on an LED backlit LCD offered good black levels, but when lighting bright images in dark scenes, such as stars in space for example, it resulted in an odd halo effect around the stars that's not present in the same scene on a plasma, where it looked flawless... and many stars were hardly even visible on the LED, whereas the plasma had everything visible in better detail.

Bottom line:  Go with whatever suits you best.  It's true that plasmas heat up a smaller room fast (which sucks), but for the best picture quality, be it movies or games, they're the better choice.  Picking among the top models of either tech, though, will result in a great TV.

It doesn't matter who makes it if you are looking for gaming go for the LED with a good respounce rate.
