Forums - Nintendo - New Super Mario Bros. 2 announced for 3DS!!! Hitting the World and eShop(!) in August!

Damn, Nintendo is really going out of its way to convince me to buy a 3DS.. Mario Kart, Tales, Monster Hunter, Paper Mario, Mario 3D Land, Zelda, possible DKC and Smash Bros, and now my favorite series of all time returns.. Touche, Nintendo. I went from a cynic of the platform, to indifferent, to fanboy within months.

I'm still waiting for some more pictures, but I'm sure it'll be an awesome game, hell it's classic Mario, how can it not? I just wish that those pictures showed me something new in terms of worlds. I see worlds that have all been done before, desert, ice, forest, etc. Though the return of the P meter is pretty sweet. Nintendo has officially sold me on the 3DS with this announcement.

Dammit, I wish I hadn't just blown a bunch of money in Vegas, or I'd run out and get a 3DS right now!

Guys please listen to me.

New Super Mario Bros. was for the DS, so New Super Mario Bros. 2 is for the 3DS.

You get it now?

With that mentality Mario Kart 7 should be called Mario Kart 1 or just Mario Kart since names now don't count as an entry into a series.

So... This is the 3rd New Super Mario Bros. game, yes?

Then why are they calling it '2'?
What, the Wii game doesn't exist anymore? Was that game some sort of spinoff?
I honestly don't understand and think it's a very weird and illogical choice.

Not a discussion about numbers (seriously?) but this project probabily he's the one Super Mario 2D that Charles Martinet was talking about E3 2010, remember?

It's the sequel of DS, JUST THAT.

You know its obviously NSMB3, because the P meter is included in it.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

It seems to me that the NSMB series is separate from NSMB Wii, which, in and of itself, is going to be a separate series, judging from the announcement of a new 2D Mario for Wii U. Though the rumored trademark "Super Mario Bros 4" could indicate they are returning directly to the original Mario series. Then of course you've got the mainline 3D Mario on consoles, and the 3D Mario on 3DS, which will probably also be its own series. And let's not forget all the endless Mario spinoffs. :/

I think the AVGN needs to make aanother video like this but with Mario games:

They should have realized that 2D Mario deserves the production values of the 3D games by now...
