go back to the 5th gen. and ask Nintendo. the only thing about that is that N64 sold over 30m, and the SNES which won the 4th gen. sold over 40m, so it really wasn't that big a loss, when your market was in decline the previous gen. you won.

edit: congrats Sony. i made this prediction in Feb. no need to gloat so i won't

edit2: it won't happen this yr. if we look at previous yr.'s matterns, you'll notice the gap may go as low as 2-1.5m and rise again, only to go down again. so PS3 will likely take second this time next yr., if not during the summer.

but lets be serious. Barring the end of the world in December the PS3 will eventually pass the X-box.

I'm proud of MS - The original XBox never made much of a dent, now the 360 is 2nd place or very close to it. I still think after the holidays they will be fine since the 720 should be out late next year, or whatever It's called. Once the 720 is out they should still manage second place on release of the 720.

Hmm I'd say it's likely that it will be 700k, which according to some, is proof of being undertracked, when it really isn't.

x720 announcement will likely kill 360 sales, so they'll need a price drop to counteract that. However, xmas price will likely be exactly the same with "deals" last year, which should result in a smaller year overall.

I think kinect growth has also likely topped, so that's a factor as well.

Still not hugely important, the software sales are what really matter, and new console sales as they are actually making money on them now
