I miss my NES. Took me years to save up my pocket money to get one ( I was getting £1 a week and the NES was retailing at £100) When I got it I was glued to Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt. I never had any more games for it because I sold it a few months to a year later to get a SNES shortly after launch. Still to this day I miss my NES and may have to try and pick one up. I've never sold a Console or game after I sold my NES.

Its easy to mistake the Famicom for a totally different console

I was going to say a similar thing to the suggestion of trying old N64 games... If you played them back then then they may seem aged, but you can still see the value in them, if you didn't experience them then though, many games will have aged too much and will feel clunky and horrible (there are exceptions to the rule though such as Super Mario 64 and LoZ: Majora's Mask)

With the NES and SNES, because games all play in 2D I think some will still hold value today unless you are bothered about the looks... I think generally the simpler the premise of the game, the less the gameplay ages (I'm not really interested in them much myself, but 2D platformers like Super Mario Bros. are still enjoyable today if you are a platformer fan but haven't played SMB for some reason)

I started with a Commodore or something similar that worked with tapes and afterwards, in a more mature way (for an 8 year old) with a Famicom... Family computer System, the japanese NES.
Unluckily, there was no legal market in my country, so the only thing legal, if ever, were consoles.

OP, you should consider that Wii is to many children today what the Family Game, Famicom or NES was for us. And also, you should consider that many of us who are about our 30 and along with a gaming PC and a PS360 have a Wii is because Nintendo gaming philosophy is the milk we were feed when young.

Yep, it really depends on games in the end. Personally, my first console was the Sega MegaDrive and I still find really enjoyable a lot of my old games like Sonic, Twin Hawk, Mortal Kombat, Alien Soldier, of course some others like Fifa 94', F-22 Interceptor have aged badly.

I played some SNES games for the first time on Virtual Console: games like Donkey Kong Counrty 1 and Super Metroid are easily among the ones I've enjoyed the most this gen, even tought they're 15 years old.

I used to think Nintendo was "bad" from the other perspective -- it took away the games I played when i first go into games at the end of high school.

Even when I learned the history (that Nintendo relaunched video gaming consoles in the US because they had essentially ceased to exist), I was more of a "Sega person" than a "Nintendo person."

But when I finally started to play Nintendo games, I gained an appreciation that has only increased over time -- much to the detriment of my wallet.

I can only agree with free2b 8bit-16bit Games aged way better than most 32bit-64bit games. Nintendos style is timeless. And alot of other third party games like Secret of Mana or pretty much any Square Enix RPGs on SNES are still awesome to play. Contra on NES I just played recently and it was as awesome as ever.
