I'm a bit surprised. I guess I credited reviews with more power than they really have.
I don't think this is a slam on the "do reviews hold a lot of weight?" as much as it's proof of how strong branding can be.
Think about it: this game would not have sold half of these numbers if it wasn't "Resident Evil."

If you sell it enough before it releases, people go and see it regardless of the reviews.

People generally have no clue...when RE:Outbreak was released for ps2 I bumped into a bogan guy I knew who was running to the shop thinking the new 'proper' resident evil game had just been released
