Forums - Microsoft - Who disconnected ther Kinect?

I own the Kinect from day one and enjoyed it for like 2 minutes. The only people using it in my family are my kids and their stupid friends but it been bugging me lately because how easily it get turn on accidentally. You say "Xbox" it turns on, you walk by waving your hands it turns on. It been getting very annoying. Does this bother any other Kinect owner?

After the first two sports games and dance games we stopped using it and sold it for 40 dollars on craigslist. It was 50, but the guy drove supposedly many miles so I felt bad.

Lol. Wish I could just sell it but the wife and kids will have riot. Might just buy another Xbox 360 for the kids room so they can just play with the Kinect.

I didn't.

But then I never got one in the first place... :P

My kids just play the wii.

My kids are banned from playing with my Wii. Two broken Wii-mote is enough for me to replace.

Mine gets used almost daily. Even if it's just for voice commands to pause/play movies or dash navigation. The Boy uses it to play games, and when I finish/get board with Divinity 2:DKS I'll start playing Gunstringer and Rise of Nightmares again.

I also used it in ME3 and Halo Anniversary for the voice stuff.

What do you mean "You say "Xbox" it turns on, you walk by waving your hands it turns on"?  Is there a setting I'm missing?  My Kinect doesn't turn on until I turn the Xbox on.  I can say Xbox all day long but unless I hit the power button on my Xbox 360, it doesn't do a thing.  Same goes for "walking buy and waving my hands".  It doesn't even recognize me when it is already on unless I stand in the "sweet spot" and wave at it in the specific way described.

Not here to defend Kinect's honor or anything.  It's just that your two issues don't actually exist (I have a slim 360 and an old white 360--Kinect is connected to my older 360.  Maybe the 360s is on all the time?).

No. on the 360s its the same. You have to physically turn on the xbox with a remot or the power button. I was confused by what he said also. MS said they did not include the xbox on as an option becuase it would require the xbox to be in some kind of sleep mode always drawing some power. So i dont understand the complaints either.

From my experience with Kinect, it doesn't respond to your 'commands' unless you speak assertively. If I casually say 'Xbox' it won't respond.

Also, about the waving thing. That doesn't make sense. It only responds to waving if you stand, not moving, in front of the sensor waving your hand back in forth in a strict motion. Walking away while waving is not going to affect it. (though I'm curious as to why you're waving anyway).

uhm well mine is mostly not connected via USB, only when I use it.
I would like to use it more often, but my appartment is rather small and my neighbours are getting angry when I jump too much. I don't mind though

Now I already have a new appartment in sight with a much bigger living room and I will move there soon with my gf (in July)

I checked the OP's Gamertag (193 games to my 198 games. Very impressive.....) on Xbox.com. He's probably not trolling. I know I can go a few weeks without using Kinect but then I end up playing it nonstop. It's something you have to be in the mood for. Last time I played was probably last week. I was playing Gunstringer with the commentary and they mentioned how much fun The Maw was. I then went back and played The Maw from start to finish. I still love my Kinect, though. Hell, I'm tempted to get another just for my game room (though space is an issue in there).

I believe the OP has a legit issue but he just didn't explain it properly. Maybe he meant that he'd be watching Netflix and the Kinect would recognize him or something.
