Forums - Gaming - Texting: One of the biggest scams of all times? Yay or Nay

I don't like texting. Personally find it to be a waste of money. Faster to call someone up.

Yeah it's a total scam. But what I don't understand is why so many people text back and forth all day long. What's the point. If you need to talk to someone call them. If you just need to say you'll be late text them. But don't text a conversation back and forth. It's like people can't be along with their own thoughts anymore so they have to connect with someone else to entertain them. I hate phones and texts and e-mails. When I'm alone I enjoy not having to interact with anybody.

Of course it's a scam!

But you know what? So are a lot of things... ever heard of bottled water? The two-party system? "Green" energy?

Doesn't make it any less likely that billions of people won't continue to do it, even if they're aware that they're perpetuating and encouraging a scam.

The amount of pollution that is created in order to create the electrical power to run electric cars is just as bad/worse than having a gas guzzler vehicle. (At least in the USA, not necessarily Europe). Interesting, isn't it? We really need to figure out our future energy plan.

I have 500 minutes, truly unlimited data, unlimited texting(picture included) for $55 a month. Texting was nowhere near $30.

Absolutely, I couldn't agree more.  Too many people have their head in the sand, assuming "green" means no pollution.

Meh. I get unlimited everything for $30 a month (even less using my company discount). I watch several GB's of video, download, and everything with text messaging as a nice bonus. I'm okay with it.

The prof hadn't discovered sexting, huh?

I have a $15 plan that comes with 1000 free texts a month among other privileges which I never use up. So no. Granted my plan is no longer available but they can't cut me off from it due to the contract.

In the modern era of smartphones, it's a total scam. It used to be quite a useful service, but there are suitable alternatives now.

It's a possibility, but my unlimited texting is only $10 as well as the support of MMS. Those messages can cost quite a bit as it's a picture or video. While it is true that they make their money using similar tactics, it's just a cost leadership strategy (or razor blade model, whatever you want call it).

So many other companies do similar things, I don't think you can really call it out as a scam or anything like that.

Is unlimited texting really down to $10?  It was $30 when I upgraded my phone over summer, that's with ATnT.

T-Mobile I think it's Unlimited for 30$ on a Family Plan.

No, I don't think it's a scam. You can drop calls but you really can't "drop" texts. I've been in a horrible place for reception (Dang you certain community that I can not say because then you would know where exactly I live!!!) and I dropped many calls but my texts always went through.... maybe it's just me?

It's unlimited texting and data for $30 on T-Mobile.
