PC gaming doesn't have generations, just graphics card replacements.

I cant wait to make a better PC for gaming ;x

Thats the point...its not stock...go make it or go to a place that cares to make it.

Suggestions on a place where they make it? Mainstream store PCs suck, too poor for alienware as well ;x

Thats because PC's aren't made for gaming, unless you buy a specific version. Even then its still not "dedicated", but consoles are.

So Crysis 2 flopped.

Kinda sounds like it didn't meet their expectations for the to go all "We love the pc most!" route suddenly again.

Consoles are clearly not "dedicated" to games anymore, by your definition. Except maybe Wii. They're trying to do all the things PCs have been doing for years.

Their prime purpose is still gaming. Pop in your Blu Ray or DVD and see if it doesn't take over the whole screen despite you doing other things. Gaming was always meant to go multimedia. PC is a multimedia tool and has been, but it completely a processing tool for many things and nothing specific, plus you must always check specs like a madman if you want to play a game. At the gaming consoles core its process is for gaming, so either a game exists for it or it doesn't. WIth PC the graphics cards trump the games, with consoles its the reverse. Don't feel satisfied with how a game looks? Change your card. Don't worry about the generation because technically they dont adhere to them as far as identity is concerned. There is no PC genesis, or saturn, or even PC Dreamcast. There is no PC 1, 2, 3 every decade. PC's change without worry of the frame of time because there is less worry for the value dropping and the companies are not profitting off of your upgrades (Toshiba, Samsung, Compax, etc) unless they are focused on games.

Well yeah, I wasn't saying it was exactly alike. But like I said before, I still maintain that PC gaming has semi-generations. And besides, I don't think crytek were being too literal with their statement there in the OP.

Then I guess graphics card makers control the progression of generations for you. Technically generations are a process much like for us humans being X, Y, Baby boomers, etc. Theres a time in between and those born within it. For consoles For PC a generation doesn't exactly matter or even count but again..if you want it to, then so be it. In a sense with consoles graphical leaps are more appreciated, rather than depended on like PC. PC generations exist....they just have nothing to do with gaming.

PC gaming generations are more or less defined by updates to Direct X; new hardware is required to take advantage of the new features.

Maybe they can focus on the AI?

Lord Crysis 2 was just as bad as the first Crysis.

So they say that when consoles for this gen is up to 7 years old and the new gen is starting within the next couple years...

I can see it now, "These new consoles are the future, we'll stick with them"

Thank you for stating the obvious Mr. Crytek spokesman.

But didn't Crytek themselves say how Crysis wouldn't be able to be funded if it was a PC exclusive? It's why they went multiplatform for Crysis 2 and why they released the first on PSN/XBL. They even complained about how bad piracy was on PC.

Like I said above, Crysis 1 sold better on PC only than Crysis 2 did on all platforms combined. Piracy is bad, but what matters most is sales. They probably expected a lot more from Crysis 2 on consoles.

Before Crysis 2 launched they said they expected it to do arround 7 million including consoles. Probably as they had been constantly told by publishers that PC piracy was killing sales and the PS3 and 360 market was much bigger for that kind of game. And as the first sold 3.5 million on PC they expected double that from consoles+PC.

So far it has sold ~ 2 million on PS3+360 (+500k PC retail) so yea they were expecting more for Crysis 2, especially as it had a larger budget and more marketing plus was a sequel rather than a new ip.

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

I'm going to be kind off topic. I don't think PC gaming is dead. (I'm a PC gamer primarily except for FF XD) as there's lots and lots of little releases that are amazing.

However I think the amount of games that push graphics is less and less than it used to be, as most devs are just making lazy console ports that just up resolution, and give crappy anti-aliasing. Though some do neat ports.

Crysis 2 looks amazing (and is fun to boot, not a masterpiece, but one of the only FPS's I've liked this gen to go with the first 2, bioshock and D.EX if that counts). I mean, from a technical perspective technically I think the first one still looks leagues better than any console game and that was released years ago. (emphasis on technical, I like the aesthetic of some DS games more).
