Nice to see they've finally seen the value of advertising..

Just slightly short of the $1 Billion for Kinect from Microsoft. Just slightly. Sigh.

Not only is your claim wrong, but you are also thread derailing.

Woah woah woah, hold your horses. First, who are sonty?

Secondly, I was just going by the widely reported $500 million figure there, i.e. the one I saw published in every news article about Kinect around release. I have not looked further into the issue than that at all, I'm not denying or spouting rubbish at all, I just thought that was the reality of things.

I'd be very interested in seeing those 'account' figures, because I've never seen them brought up before, and would like to get a figure for their marketing expenditure. Thanks!

I think Kowensky knows that. He just assumes everyone reads Microsofts financial data reports.

Hah, it's true it's asking a bit much, but I suppose it pays to be properly informed. I'm still waiting for the source though :)

what do you think i am?

its public domain, find it yourself.

OK well, I looked at the Microsoft fiscal year 2011 annual report, and they said that in the EDD Division " Sales and marketing expenses grew $90 million or 12% primarily reflecting increased Xbox 360 platform marketing activities. " Which would indicate that the total amount is $750 million? Am I missing something?

yes you are.

What's that?

Fiscal year 2011

So thats from when to when?

Its a full year and includes ALL of the division for a full year to July 2011

So the $500m for JUST kinect for JUST the holiday quarter is a statement that is fanciful.

No no no, it specified the "Entertainment and Devices Division"

" EDD offerings include the Xbox 360 entertainment platform (which includes the Xbox 360 gaming and entertainment console, Kinect for Xbox 360, Xbox 360 video games, Xbox LIVE, and Xbox 360 accessories), Mediaroom (our Internet protocol television software), and Windows Phone. In November 2010, we released Kinect for Xbox 360 and the latest version of Windows Phone. "

Again, specifically in this divison they said "Sales and marketing expenses grew $90 million or 12% primarily reflecting increased Xbox 360 platform marketing activities."

So maybe you are mistaken with your original $350 million figure?

This is not even close to being true. Why does Sony fans love to bend the truth.

Edit: Nevermind Kowenicki covered it.

YES.. THE WHOLE E&D DIVISION...

($350m was for the holiday qurter (nintendo spent $500m for that quarter)

I give up.

Forgive me, I just feel a bit miffed that you insulted me for saying that expenditure was $500 million, then you assured me it was $350 for the whole division and refused to provide a source, then when I prove you wrong, and all evidence points to it being so(every news article on the $500 million marketing, and Microsoft themselves saying that the increase is primarily due to the 360)

and then, to top it off, the $94 million 27% increase blah blah that you are quoting is actually from the 'holiday quarter' of 2011, not 2010, so you are deliberately trying to mislead me with different data.

Yes, I found your original information, here is the source that you refused to give me.

http://www.microsoft.com/investor/EarningsAndFinancials/Earnings/SegmentResults/EntertainmentAndDevicesDivision/FY12/Q2/performance.aspx

And I believe we are done here.

I live in France and i can say the amount of ads for kinect and xbox 360 is really indecent.

I NEVER saw that from Sony, even during the ps2 era.

Since the beginning of this gen, Microsoft is really invading the medias.

lol MS fans are really touchy about something that's not a bad thing

Sony needs to do the same, you can have an amazing product but if no one knows it exist it won't do well

Wow... you guys need to cut down on the quote trees, it's getting ridiculous. All you've got to do is delete the boxes from before and then go on conversing.
OT: Good for Sony? The thing that really matters though is if and when they get those on the right TV channels and at the right time. If they don't try to do that then it's a waste of money.
