Neutral on this and depends on the game that is being developed.

If for say Call of Duty or Metal Gear Solid, sure.

Games like Mario and Pokemon no.

If you understood what Japanese stuff is actually in Mario and Pokemon, you'd freak out ;)

I didnt know the Japanese Flag was in the games.

cultural tendencies =/= National tendencies

Umm this thread was not just about a flag appearing in a game. You should really reread the OP. Its about characters and settings. Pokemon is set in Japan basically and the characters are all pretty much Japanese the culture the attitude the whole game screams Japan. Which is what this thread is about diversifying games using the developers nationality and pride to create unique international content that will appeal to everyone. A hundred American games each year is simply stupid.

I'm sorry but you cannot tell me people would not know the difference between Rome and Berlin or France. Architecture is different , language is different, clothing/culture. Also it depends where in Canada you are talking Montréal looks drastically different then almost any American city. The landscape is different as well, all the forests and nature. Some cities like Vancouver, Toronto and Ottawa could easily be defined by landmarks yes but what makes New York, New York or San Diego, San Diego?

Your bias is showing a bit too much. Actually more then a bit. Don't act too condescending...

Anyway I really really don't understand this threads argument at all...

This gen more then ever, has had games with a huge variety of locations and main characters. Heck the Modern Warfare franchise focuses on British soldiers saving the world despite America being by far the biggest market for call of duty games, and the series even portrays Americans quite negatively.

Assassins Creed took 5 games to get 1 set in America despite America being the biggest market for Assassins Creed as well...

Uncharted is set all over the world.

Mass Effect/Halo/killzone are set in different worlds

Heck the only games I can think of that are clearly based in America are fallout 3/new vegas, red dead redemption, and all the gta clones.
