Eh i'd just call him overly critical. Likely due to the fact that he is a game designer himself. When you do something for a living, the flaws that other peole make become more clear. Personally I like that that he's overcritical. |
I'd imagine that working within the idustry would equal more respect. Unless he can do a MUCH better job and back it up, those quotes just seem.... bitter. You don't hear Cliffy B saying "I think Resistance and KZ2 looks horrible", he gives respect where it's due. Same thing with other well known developers that decide to speak their minds, they know what other developers/designers go through on a daily bases and how difficult it is to make a game so they sympathize. It's called being professional. If there's nothing good to say then don't say it, no one is perfect. There's no reason to go out of the way to put someone elses product/work down, or let fanboys aggravate you to the point where you become a part of another fanboy argument... that's lame and immature.

@Mar: First off, I'm going to take it that you are NOT stupid enough to accuse me of all people to be a "sony hater". Secondly there's no problem with two "great" (when did KZ2 achieve "greatness"?) exclusives during the same seasons. However, there is a problem with two FPS games that are getting released in the same time frame that is published by the same publisher. If the masses know that a proven success such as Resistance is going to be released around the same time frame as KZ2, people are probably going to wait for R2 instead. The only FPS game that i can see derailing KZ2's hype in 08 is Resistance2, so why would Sony go through all the trouble of hyping up KZ2 just to knock it down with another one of their own games? The average consumer is not going to go out and buy two FPS games just for the heck of it, they are going to pick one, and that's going to hurt the sales of the other game if the release dates are close to each other. Like I said before, Sony doesn't NEED R2 to add into their already stacked 08 lineup, that's why they can afford to bring R2 into 09 and i guarantee that would benefit Sony much more than trying to stick both their premiere FPS games into the same quarter. |
Halo 3 didn't really cannibalize CoD4's sales. If they can get KIllzone 2 out by September or so, than releasing Resistance 2 in November should be no problem.
However, it seems unlikely that Killzone 2 will make it out by September, and if Resistance turns out to be the far better game, then they should definitely release Killzone first, lest people ignore it for not being near as good. In this case, then I would agree with pushing R2 to '09. However, how deep into '09 is the question. Releasing a game as good as R2 could theoretically turn out to be would have a much better system selling effect during the Holiday sales rush, so maybe it would be better to release Resistance over the holidays, and push KZ2 into '09, giving Guerilla more time to improve the game, and releasing it around March as a hold over to GoW3, etc.
That is assuming R2 turns out much better than KZ2. I still have high hopes for KZ. Afterall, we have absolutely no idea what their online plans are as of yet.

A couple of websites have thrown around the April timeframe, but considering how little we know about the game, and the fact that an open beta hasn't even been announced, let alone begun (both KZ and KZ:L had open betas), I highly doubt that it will make it out anything sooner than Q3.
Edit: I think that a beta around May and a release around September ala Halo 3 seems feasible, though wildly speculative on my part.

If it were up to me, I'd set up my high profile games to either stomp out competition within the same genre or secure a time slot where i know it's VERY unlikely that anything else would take away from sales. I can see the benefits of both games released during the holidays of 08, but i just see more benefit for Sony to release their premiere FPS game when the one before it has decreased enough in sales. Besides... what other FPS game is in 09?
Damstr8: I doubt it, we have more information on Resistance 2 than KZ2 at the moment.

He probably got the idea from some of the recent things you've said: "Little Big Planet - Don't get me wrong, I don't think the game will be bad but it won't be near the best." "GT5 - It's going to sell oodles and oodles but it will hardly be the best." "I don't like Insomniac" "I would consider RRR2 better than Uncharted"Lists about how PS3 08' games are going to be delayed, arguing about why Little Big Planet will not be a success, mentioning how you think the cover system in Uncharted is poor... etc. I don't honestly care, just showing you where halil23 was possibly getting his/her idea that you don't like Sony from. As for 360 fanboy..., I'm not too sure. You're more of a Wii fanboy really. |
Heh, ouch. Out of context those really don't look too good I suppose. :-p
As for respect, I give respect where respect is deserved. Resistance is a fine launch game but not much more than that. It is a quickly done generic shooter with a boring art style that was a fine launch title.
And yeah, CliffyB and the likes are respectful in public interviews because they are public interviews. If I was to be publically interviewed or make any kind of comment that had my real name attached to it in some actual media outlet, I would put a very nice PR spin on everything I say. Since this is a forum with a post that will disappear in a matter of days, I generally say what's on my mind.
