Forums - Sales - How many Vita's will sell in 2012?

Vita's end of year sales will be....

10+ million 34 15.11%

9 million 9 4.00%

8 million 33 14.67%

7 million 28 12.44%

6 million 38 16.89%

5 million 83 36.89%

Total:225

So I've seen some of you claiming this or that on Vita sales, myself included, but let's put out a poll. I'm counting sales in Japan from the last week of December so right now Vita is at 1.7 million and we have 41 weeks left to go. 5 million is the low point because at current low sales of 90k a week if it was to average that the entire year it would be 5.3 million, so it's that or higher. Sales will probably go lower or stay low during the off season but will shoot back up during the holidays, how much is the real question. Though I want to say I do not expect a price drop this year, the 3DS had just as low of sales until they cut the price which kept their sales up until the holiday hit and they sold over a million a week during the holiday month giving them their amazing ~16 million total. Even without a price cut the Vita can still move more units during the holidays than any other time of the year, so give it your best guess.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I would say around 3 million for the USA without a price drop. With a price drop it could easily be from 3 - 5 Million. Japan seems to have lost interest in the PSVita and they are buying the 3DS like crazy so I would think 2.5 Million with/without a price cut. Europe seems to be in love with the Vita but I won't make any predictions on them since I don't pay attention to much sales in Europe, I will say that they might outsell America though. (this is all without looking back at numbers.)

Sooooo....6 million plus whatever Europe sells?

Oh and I wouldn't say Japan has lost interest in the Vita, it just hasn't been established yet. PSP is still selling over their and as soon as that market shifts over to next gen Vita sales will rise. I know with the 3ds and the ds there is the whole backwards compatibility thing and frankly PSP titles are supported online like Vita titles are, but people which make the switch eventually.

I say 8 million. No real reasons just guessing.

7.5mil.

Another 2.5-3mil until October, then the rest in the holiday season.

In comparison, 3DS will sell 14-16mil

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Overall I would probably guess around 8.5 Million. (I'm adjusting my Japan prediction by the way.)

8.5 mil world wide for vita? Doubt it unless something that will sell like hotcakes come out.

I'm basing the WW heavily on Europe. If they fail to get 3 Million Vitas by the end of the year then my comment would be incorrect, but Europe seems to have been fancying Sony lately. I would guess as to that much.

No, Vita's sales are much lower when you align the two so far and take a couple of factors into consideration:

The Vita launched the week of Dec 12-18 in Japan, putting it on the market for about 3 1/2 months now and totaling 1.7m WW.

The 3DS in its first 3 1/2 months, at the same price, with far less games, and without the benefit of the holiday season in Japan amassed around 3m WW.

OT:  As far as what Vita will sell this year, I'd rather be fair and wait until after E3 when we know more (games, possible price drop).  Based on just what we know right now at $249, well, I'd rather not speculate since it wouldn't be much...

Anyone know how much PSP sold in its first year? We can probably base a number off of that.

I wouldn't base it on that.

PSP: 10'082'234

DS: 13'848'582

Both are in their first years.

I think in January 2013 VITA will have sold around 9-10 million. Posibly a pricecut in september, coupled with a Call of Duty, Assassins Creed and Bioshock games, for Japan some games like FF X HD and it will sell like crazy.
