I like daddy long legs a lot just because 99% of people think they could kill you but my favorite is the bumble bee.

Not entirely sure it's a bumble bee though.

The Praying Mantis is my favorite insect. The thing can turn its head.

I also had one fly on my face when I was working... I didn't realize it was there until a fellow worker pulled it off.

Speaking of which, did anyone have Creepy Crawlers when they were a kid? I loved that thing.

I like insects unless they eat my garden. In that case I slaughter them with a passion, snails included. I don't kill insects for no reason though and actually like watching them.

You should release a bunch of ladybugs into your garden.  They will take care of a decent amount of plant pests.

We have few ladybugs in coastal Mississippi, at least I never see them.

Ladybugs are cute until they try to eat your house

I once walked into a swarm at the beach in Grand bend, Lake Huron.
They're not so cute when they're hungry, they bite!

So there is no bug love on VGC... Where is sadmanlovesvgc when you need him? I believe I am just as sad as him right now but I need confirmation.

These buggers made move out, no kidding. I made a thread whining and being sad about it too

Dragonflies don't sting or bite people, and they eat other smaller insects like mosquitos, so I vote them as coolest.

Ants are assholes, spiders scare me and create webs that I walk into, worms are good for fishing, cockroaches suck, any insect that stings/bites sucks. Ladybugs are okay I guess.

Crabs are pretty cool.

Pretty sure they don't come into any definition of 'bug'

Though I guess they have 'bug' eyes.

No they are not. They are part of the same phylum (Arthropoda), but so is everything else with an exoskeleton and jointed legs. In fact the "family" classification of species comes below both crab and spider (there are different families of spider, but crab isn't one of them)

Being in the same phylum is not particularly special for most species, particularly if that phylum is arthropoda, which has well over 1 million species. For comparison Humans are in the phylum: chordata, which is mostly ascociated with the sub-phylum: vertebrate... which includes all mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and most things people class as fish.

(n.b. I wasn't meaning to be condescending by the way, I just knew they were not the same family and have learnt/re-learnt a few things myself in finding out where crab and spider are in the order of species)
