I still can't understand how Sony let Monster Hunter slip away...

Nintendo went berserk mode, and are playing a whole new strategy, they don't want to win, they want to crush the competition. Probably becasue, they feel like an eventual success of the PSP brand may weaken their position as a whole in the industry. The GBA was, after all, the element that allowed them to go through the N64 and the Gamecube eras.

Sony probably took it for granted that MH would always stay with them

What does that mean?

As far as I'm aware, nothing's been announced. And it's unlikely we'll here anything about it for a long time, certainly nothing about MH4 I reckon.

MHP3rd is a possibility. However, the chances of this happening are still slim. I reckon we'll see a new spin-off title for the Vita, if anything, in the next 18-24 months.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

It's a no turning back path, and I believe Sony will do anything possible and impossible to not follow it.

Perhaps, perhaps not.

Sony is in a financial crisis and on top of that the Vita sales are low. Would Sony really take money and buy some big exclusives for Vita? They made billions loss with PS3. I don't think Sony will take the same route with Vita. If Vita sales don't increase without much investition it is more believeable that Sony drop the Vita.

How does the ps3 costing them 860$ at launch have anything to do with buying exclusives for the Vita?

The Vita is profitable right off the bat. You're right that they won't take the same route as ps3 with vita, but it's not a theory, it's an already established fact (or close neough.

They will not drop the Vita.

I agree, they'll do a lot to bring it back from... well, sales hell. But we all know that's very hard, even doing the "impossible". I mean, take the Gamecube. With all Nintendo first party power and lots of "bought" exclusives they couldn't revive the Cube from that zone, and the thing [Cube] is sellling way better than Vita now. And worst, 3DS is being way more "juggernaustic" right now in Japan than PS2 ever was

heh, I don't think comparing vita and 3ds to the cube and ps2 are very good measures for predicting the future.

In fact, in a comparison of that gen, this gen's ps2 is like iOS or Android, not 3ds.

It took ps2 18 months or so to have a price drop, 30 months to reach 179$, the current 3ds price.

I know it's an easy thing to overlook, but that was a major major price drop. Nintendo has never cut such a large amount in such a short time period. The consumers are only reacting to a great bargain

Whatever the reason, It doesn't change the fact that 3DS is doing way better than PS2 and Vita way worse than the Gamecube in japan. And worse, the cube was never more expensive than the PS2, so price cut or not, price will always be a huge 3DS advantage. And Vita is doing way worse at 250 than 3DS did at 250 too, so it's not just a price thing. Consumer are reacting to games too, and it's unquestining that 3DS is getting way better support than Vita for japanese games.  All things combined, 3DS is becoming a beast bigger than PS2 ever was in japan, and it's biggest weapons are still coming later this year.

Capcom Captivate is next month, so all our questions will be answered there.

If there's no monster hunter there for Vita releasing at the same time as MH4, then Vita is dead in japan.
(hey, it could die and comeback as a undead, zombies are cool)

New Capcom game Zombie Hunter?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Pretty sure the Vita will survive, just that the PSP is taking all the spotlight, look at all the recent games released in Japan for PSP, damn lucky bastards :( , why cant they release those games in the west as well D:

You know, that argument is a big 3DS advantage not Vita's.

The more PSP gets support, the bigger 3DS will become over Vita.

Well, if you think it can sustain those sales, I'm not gunna argue lol
