Capcom Captivate is next month, so all our questions will be answered there.

If there's no monster hunter there for Vita releasing at the same time as MH4, then Vita is dead in japan.
(hey, it could die and comeback as a undead, zombies are cool)

I think Nintendo has paid/incentive-ized Capcom to keep Monster Hunter on the 3DS and off the Vita.

What point is there to MH on Vita in the forseeable future for Capcom anyway? The system has a laughably low userbase in Japan whereas the 3DS is starting to amass a huge install base very quickly now.

It sucks for Sony, but that's really not Capcom's problem.

I think you'll see Monster Hunter Wii U announced before a Monster Hunter Vita game.

There's very little incentive for Capcom do do it, but from my view, Sony would do anything to have it, maybe even break this Nintendo exclusive-contract - if there is really one, which I don't believe.  It's simply a necessity for them, the only thing that can be done to make Vita even relevant there.

Like I said, there's will be no way to turn things around if MH 4 gets released on 3DS exclusively, especially together with 2D Mario. This combination will definitely break records and vita will have what to counter it? You can pick any games, hell, any 3 games - outside Dragon Quest XI, which is not happening on Vita, period - and it won't be enough. Even a hypotetical FFXV on Vita would be dwarfed by those two games. It's a no turning back path, and I believe Sony will do anything possible and impossible to not follow it.

Perhaps, perhaps not.

Sony is in a financial crisis and on top of that the Vita sales are low. Would Sony really take money and buy some big exclusives for Vita? They made billions loss with PS3. I don't think Sony will take the same route with Vita. If Vita sales don't increase without much investition it is more believeable that Sony drop the Vita.

They'll release 4th for 3DS, and 4thPortable for PSV.

...at which point i'll make a thread on how vita is winning the portable market because this proves the 3DS isn't portable.  look forward to it.

I'll not miss it.

@Pokemonbrawlvg Can't really say, as someone mentioned before,  2013 Q1 seems plausible.

Btw, if SquareEnix announces Dragon Quest XI for 3DS, the battle will be over in Japan.

How does the ps3 costing them 860$ at launch have anything to do with buying exclusives for the Vita?

The Vita is profitable right off the bat. You're right that they won't take the same route as ps3 with vita, but it's not a theory, it's an already established fact (or close neough.

They will not drop the Vita.

The battle will be over way before that, if nothing happens soon. DQ 11 will be announced next year at minimum, but I agree, it will be on 3DS, since there's already 2 DQ games for it and Wii U already has DQX - an MMO, which usually lasts for a much longer time than a normal game - so no sequel necessary.

Might as well make Dragon Quest series a Nintendo exclusive since they perform very well on them. I think it's already began...

I agree, they'll do a lot to bring it back from... well, sales hell. But we all know that's very hard, even doing the "impossible". I mean, take the Gamecube. With all Nintendo first party power and lots of "bought" exclusives they couldn't revive the Cube from that zone, and the thing [Cube] is sellling way better than Vita now. And worst, 3DS is being way more "juggernaustic" right now in Japan than PS2 ever was

I still can't understand how Sony let Monster Hunter slip away...

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

heh, I don't think comparing vita and 3ds to the cube and ps2 are very good measures for predicting the future.

In fact, in a comparison of that gen, this gen's ps2 is like iOS or Android, not 3ds.

It took ps2 18 months or so to have a price drop, 30 months to reach 179$, the current 3ds price.

I know it's an easy thing to overlook, but that was a major major price drop. Nintendo has never cut such a large amount in such a short time period. The consumers are only reacting to a great bargain.
