heh, I don't think comparing vita and 3ds to the cube and ps2 are very good measures for predicting the future.
In fact, in a comparison of that gen, this gen's ps2 is like iOS or Android, not 3ds.

It took ps2 18 months or so to have a price drop, 30 months to reach 179$, the current 3ds price.
I know it's an easy thing to overlook, but that was a major major price drop. Nintendo has never cut such a large amount in such a short time period. The consumers are only reacting to a great bargain.
