Wow, it funny how much flak a game or series can receive when we become detached a few years from its release. MGS4 is was lauded by nearly all as excellent.

I don't think anybody that has complained in this thread liked MGS4 in the first place, they either say the original MGS was his only good game or they are jumping on the 'lol movies' bandwagon.

I can see his "indie" point. People seem to use it as a way to appear, I guess, uncorrupted. Like you make games not for the money, but for the sake of making game. Like indie holds this "I'm still pure" title to it. Even if that didn't make any sense, a indie game developer is a game developer. It is that simple.
I have never played a Hideo kojima game so I wouldn't know about that. All I can say is I do not find the MGS appealing, except for the newer, DMC-esque one with Rain or the dude with white hair (if it even relates MGS anymore)
Only the first MGS was good, 3 was okay 2 and 4 are terrrible.
MGS3 is my favorite game. When I was about 16 I thought it was a great story with amazing dialogue and characters.
I'm 23 now and now that I look back...the story and dialogue is just...not good.
Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League
The story for MGS3 is better than most game stories, seeing as it is based on some actual events, such as Khruschev losing his power base and Brezhnev/Kosygin taking over... I enjoyed the game, though the first two hours were mainly cut scenes.
I got it for the 3DS and it is my first Kojima game. Really enjoyed the challenge of the battles and the stealth elements. The whole plot does get bonkers, but that is the point. I look forward to trying some of the others.
Yes.

He is pretty much just stating the obvious. Indie types get too attached to the "indie" part of it, and Kojima has always been awful.
I did like Metal Gear Solid 1 when I first played it though, but then again I was only 11 years old at the time and I lacked any semblance of taste in pretty much any artistic medium.

What kind of criteria for effective storytelling is that? By that logic Call of Duty Black Ops has a story better than most game stories since the opening mission takes place during the Bay of Pigs Invasion, an actual historic event.
Sorry, it just seems like a ridiculous standard.
If MGS3 is really your first Kojima game and you think its plot is bonkers then just wait until you play MGS2 or MGS4 which have stories and characters so wacky that they border on the surreal.
Try to get your hands on MGS1 though since it is really the only MGS game worth playing imo. It is still a very flawed game, and there are plenty of examples of games in the same genre that are vastly superior efforts, but it does have a certain charm to it at least, and the story (while still crazy) is the most comprehensible of the series.
well if MGS4 is that recent release he is referred to then critics and gamers that bought mgs4 and stated that it is not only one of the best games of this gen but of all-time are totally idiots and that his-mother-doesn 't-even-know developer says this, we all know that he would not even manage to make the worst-acclaimed kojima game enough said
