I think he was talking multiplat games not ports, but even so, all those games you listed the HD versions were superior, no doubt about it(except maybe NMHs), so if the Wii was the "lead" platform but it got the worst version anyway. Whats the point??? Just asking.

@vgkingz exactly not to mention that those games would not be what they are today because the WII wouldnt be able to handle the stuff that the HDs can, so it would be mediocore games all around, nobody wins.
People seem to forget that alot of these engines that run the HD games were already being made or already done by the time Wii was even out, 3rd parties were never going to make Wii lead platform as that would have been more work. no matter the marketshare.

@superchunk deblob2 was a multiplat, all version were released the same day. Hell you might as well throw JD3, Zumba into the mix as well

Not True. CoD has proven that with the reduction in graphics and some special visual technologies, the same game can be implemented.

So they could have made Wii the lead and then added the necessary upgrades for HD twins. Modularization would be key and it would be effective.

As for other multiplats, thank you for the info.

COD is a bad example, because its not like those games are pushing the boundaries of PS360 hardware anyway, not even close to the GTAs, ACs, Fallouts, Skyrims of the world. Battlefied, Crysis and KZ blow it out of the water in terms of visuals. ANd despite that COD still runs kind of crappy on WIi. Even if some of these games can be implemented, if they run like crap, what would be the point?s Just for some people to say they have it on WIi.

COD is a perfect example as its tech is from 2008 which is when I was originally making my claim. Sure tech from 2011 and 2012 that is not being prepped for a new generation and pushing the limits of PS360 are far better, but when I made my argument, the tech wasn't and it was certainly capable on Wii with tweaks to visual tech.

it's just a joke thread. My original intention was mentioning the CoD games as if they were on Wii as a main platform, but they were already being discussed here in a different context.

(ToG especially is meant as a sarcastic remark)

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

@superchunk Assassin's Creed, GTA4, MGS4 are games that debuted in 07-08 and would disagree with you. Even if you argue that those games were not pushing the limits of PS360, one cannot honestly believe that they would run on WIi with just a few "tweaks"

I respectfully dissagree with you. None of these games were pushing PS360 to their limits. Lower the graphical push and remove certain technologies not in Wii's SDK and it would be the same game... essentially.

Possibly a few less people on screen etc... I'm not arguing the PS360 version would be equal or less than the Wii version. Their versions would still be technically superior in a similar way to CoD series and other multiplats.

The point is the base code would have been made on the Wii in order to make sure they had a version that system and then they would add additional stuff for PS360. This would have made none of these games peak the PS360's power of course, but they still would have turned out to be pretty much the same games.

However, the same can be said for what happenend last gen to the PS2 and Xbox. No multiplat game was pushing xbox to its limit as they were all first built on PS2, however the xbox versions in many cases were better looking and contained additional stuff... mostly centered on online.

This never happenend largely as pointed out above by another user in that the companies had already spent millions on new engines tailored to the PS360 and it wasn't cost effective to them to turn around and build a platform that was maxing Wii and allowing modular upgrade paths to PS360. So they simply ignored Wii instead or used PS2 ports lol.. with of course a few exceptions where they simply built a Wii engine and down ported a few games here or their like CoD.

@superchunk "Lower the graphical push and remove certain technologies not in Wii's SDK and it would be the same game... essentially." No this makes no sense, removing certain technologies, is not a "minor tweak" GTA and alot of games run on with the Havoc engine, which CANNOT run on Wii. That is a big part of what made GTA4 what it was. Take that away we would have had a game running on the same engines the PS2 ones were. Fact is alot of these HD games run on engines that simply wont work on Wii.

Now you say they could have just made the Wii the lead version and add stuff for the HDs, isnt that essentially what they did to a certain extent with some games. SW force unleashed and Sonic Unleashed Wii versions run on a completly different engine than the HDs and they were better for it IMHO, instead of trying to cram a game on Wii that had no buisness trying to be crammed they worked with what the Wii could do, too bad they stopped doing even that.

Yes it does... as well as PS2 and many other lower than Wii systems.

Ben 10 (2010 release) game used Havok engine and was on all systems. They make these systems to be really flexible and easily tailored to the platform.

Also Wii exclusive Resident Evil Darkside Chronicals.

With the right investment, this is certainly possible. Problem is 3rd parties didn't want to invest as they felt they'd get bigger returns focusing on PS360/PC and not spending the money to have necessary tools for Wii.

Keep in mind, Epic stated their engine wouldn't work on Wii too at one point. Yet they managed to make it work on DS and iPhone.

Thumbs up

Back in mid-2008 Wii was nearing 50% marketshare and at the time it seemed inevitable it would scream past that and eventually hit 60-70% at some point similar to previous generational dominators. During this time, I argued that as the marketshare increased, 3rd parties would stop ignoring Wii and make it the main platform while porting to PS360. This was technically easier than the otherway around and would still provide solid experiences to HD players as well as push Wii to its limits with tons of games.

Well, early 2010 rolled around and I purchased a PS3 so I could play 3rd party games.

However, today I have been vindicated....

"Epic Mickey 2 is in development for Wii, basing all software on that platform and the port for 360 and PS3 will be done by Blitz Games and not Disney itself like the main version."

That's right, I was right all along!!! EAT IT HD TWIN FANS... I argued with 4 years ago! Wii is now the main platform (for Epic Mickey 2) and the others will get ports. :)

Now it will surely hit 50% market share....

I also wonder what will be the main platform for Kingdom of Hearts? I think Wii-U?
