I guess Resident Evil 4 is bad as well right?

If the 4 rule doesn't seem to apply, there may be an explanation.

In the case of RE4... Code Veronica came before RE4. Thus Code Veronica was hit by the, "curse."

How about Final Fantasy IV or Super Mario World (since you are using that rule ;p)?

I can't deny FF IV breaks the rule. But FF XIV was a massive disaster. The curse can be avoided... only temporarily.

Mario is a little more complicated. You have to remember there was an original Mario Bros arcade game (1). Then there was Super Mario Bros on NES (2). THEN In Japan only they released Super Mario 2 (3), which was included in Mario All Star as Lost Levels. So the true Mario 4 is North America's Super Mario 2.

How are they equal? Both are the most disappointing games in their series.

Coincidentally, both are the fourth game in their series. Coincidence?

Metal Gear Solid 4 was not the most dissapointing as that dishonor goes to Metal Gear Solid 2 with its bait and switch nonsense with the main playable character, the introduction of FPS style shooting, gameplay that moved the series away from stealth, and a story and a cast of characters that were absurd even for Metal Gear.

In regards to examples that fit in with your idea ... Silent HIll 4 was the most dissapointing game in an otherwise perfect series when it was released. Umm ... that is all I got, but I am sure there are others.

I would also argue that Assassin's Creed Brotherhood was where things started to go wrong with the introduction of multiplayer. I would also say that it ruined the story, but that already happened in Assassin's Creed 2.

I disrespectfully disagree.

MGS4 was one of the best games I've ever played. ''Walking to the next cutscene'' is only applicable to retards that play on easy/normal.

I disagree.

MGS4 is the best in the series IMO, and Brotherhood was worse than Revelations.
Of course this is just my opinion, but quality is subjective anyway.

2012 - Top 3 [so far]

                                                                             #1                                       #2                                      #3

Not sure if I'd agree with this, Call of Duty 4 is considered to be the best in it's series along with the catalyst of the series boost into super stardom, Street Fighter 4 was considered a huge success, and Guitar Hero World Tour helped to expand and give life to the franchise back when it was still popular, Not to mention lots ofthese games could just be consider subjective, but I think most people were underwhelmed by Revelations anyway.

I do think that if a series gets to a fourth installation, then the publisher/developer is looking to create a risk to give the Ip a bit of new life.

Wasn't GTA: San Andreas the 4th installment in the gta series?

Actually that would be vice city if you don't count the london mission packs

Grand Theft Auto
Grand Theft Auto 2
Grand Theft Auto 3
Grand Theft Auto Vice City.
Grand theft auto san andreas.

Now if you want to go by the "new GTA 3rd person perspectiive" series it would be the 4th :P

Haven't played MGS4 yet, but AC:R was slightly disappointing, Altair was the only redeeming feature of that game, Brotherhood was much better, and the multiplayer was more balanced to me. The additions in Revelations just made it imbalanced with all the overpowered abilities.

Fucking. Den. Defense. Enough said.

I once had 4 den defenses in a row. DAFUQ!?
