The cunning 4chan, the wily 4chan, the evil 4chan, however you put it, the guys from one of the biggest image board community are unrelenting in their pursuit of lulz. Their most recent victim, video game journalists. The day in, day out grind of finding stories and wanting to get that big scoop is difficult, to say the least.  But when something falls right in your lap, say, a series of games that has not been announced such as, Vice City Nights, Monster Portable 3 and Final Fantasy Type-0, all for the Vita, then you lap it up in droves.

 

 

The games were made with a bit of photoshop and wit and sent to different game journos around the globe. They were picked up by Joystiq, Kotaku, GameSpot, Eurogamer and a few others who ran with the story that the games were being released and all from a simple, Play.com screenshot (see above). The story fell apart when someone actually did their job of being a video game journalist and talked to Play.Com who told them the screenshots were BS.

 

So this was a pretty epic trolling, what do you think they could have done better or how have you been trolled before? Tell us below :)

Goes to show you that most of these gaming websites don't have any journalistic standards. A bunch of moronic gamers getting together and just posting their mental drivel online. They don't confirm news and they can't even write their own articles properly. It is so ridiculous how sites like IGN and others just don't give a damn about the content of their articles. Anything from grammar/spelling errors to misinformation occurs. And that shows you what they think of their consumers - us. Their "who cares, they're gamers" attitude is unfortunate, but we - the gamers - don't hold them accountable for anything, so they tread on with the status quo cause no one questions them.

Maybe an incident like this will give em a slap to the face and have them actually act like journalists.

To IGN's credit, they call unconfirmed news "reports" or "rumblings" and then go on to write Op-Eds and Top Ten want/don't want lists about said reports or rumblings..........Okay they suck too.

Like I said, 4 chan is getting the "credit" for this, but it was a play.com mess before anything, because MH3 was there listed on the site! So it was not a critic against journalism or anything...

Hah, funny thing is, I originally saw the fake play.com picture on 4chan and, calling bullshit, reverse-searched it and found that mainstream gaming outlets had also posted the picture, resulting in me thinking it was legit, and I posted it in the Vita thread here.
Gaming journalism really is a bit of a joke at this point, for so many reasons.
