This year gap is bigger than last year gap... it's already 600k... so if Sony can put over 1.5 million before Holidays then the GAP for 2012 will be more than 700k.

What was the week to week gap as of jan-march last year? 300k? 400?

400k.

I cant believe Zelda TP outsold Zelda SS in the US!!!

well whaddya know, not bad sir, not bad. Up 50%. And since everything is down, then that means 360 sales are lowering...possibly. I haven't looked much at the numbers recently.

If 360 is indeed down, it could mean that it will be significantly down for Christmas, but no guarantee there. 360 may have just become the holiday console, pushing most of it's sales to the holiday, similarly to the wii.

On the PSV defense, Sony is probably making more profit with the 113k units than Nintendo with the 3DS at 179k :P

I thought it was assumed that Sony is taking a loss on every system sold; that's why people say that Sony can't cut the price yet...

By whom? Clueless, enthusiast gamers who think Samsung, Apple etc. charge some $500 for their stuff because it's that expensive to produce, or those who carelessly extrapolate from the PS3 and think expensive consoles inherently mean loss?

Maybe they are expending too much in advertising. Maybe they didn't recoup R&D costs yet. But there's no way they aren't making a raw profit on every unit sold.

Excuse makers that don't want to see a price drop because they want the Vita to succeed on its own merits due to the fact that they think that it should be outselling the 3DS on said merits even though it's not.

Vita needs Monster Hunter.

Taking a loss on every system sold, sure... But with the expensive memory cards that you HAVE to use? These "loss" became a lot low.

Is the economy really that bad that people can't afford a $20 memory card?

The Vita isn't an iPhone. Games aren't megabytes in size. Games are 2-4 gigs. Digital Distribution was never meant to be the main form of getting your games.

Discussion of numbers will go back up once the new generation releases.
Sales discussions really just aren't that fun without some real change happening in the arena, and ps3 had bluray, and everyone thought they knew what sales were and who was winning and who was losing etc etc.
Now that it's been 6 years in, people are starting to look at the sales arena and see that things really aren't going to change much.
PS3 is flirting with 360 sales, taking roughly 50k of the gap back every week, but at that pace it's not going to catch 360. I think people have pretty much come to accept that ps3 will be third place, 360 will be second and wii will be first.
Next gen, when there are three new consoles out, THEN we will have sales to argue about, but right now, it's pretty stale, because the sales are stale.

Not exactly, PS3 has been closing the gap ever since 2009, before PS3 Slim came out the gap was almost 9 million. Its now 2.8 million, its just a matter of time before PS3 catches up. And before you start that it wont matter, yes it does, people do care, for a failed doomed machine to turn the tables, people are already discussing if PS3 will reach 100 million in a couple of years.

Well don't be confused, I'd be excited if it happened, but last year ps3 outsold 360 almost the entire year, and then came Christmas.

This year, 360 is definitely going to get a price reduction and it's going to be the same shit all over again. PS3 had a price reduction last year, and now the gap in price is going to be exactly as it was before. This is not a good thing. Really ps3 is going to need that versus 13 to be exclusive and get that new god of war, and just something, because it isn't exactly going to blow the roof off with the lineup this year, imo.

PS3 is going to need a way to compete over Christmas, otherwise it's just going to be the same thing all over again.

VgChartz still has the PS3 as the best selling console of 2011.

Those numbers you read a few weeks ago are shipped numbers. Remember that VgChartz only tracks consumer sales(which is what counts).

I just meant that it like outsold 360 for the entire year, and then that 1.5 m or so lead was really starting to look like it was going to disappear.

But it didn't disappear, the fact is that the gap is closing down with each week, month, year. If you think PS3 will end up in 3rd place then you're betting on the wrong horse.

ps: With the WiiU coming out this year 360 sales will drop a lot in the Holiday period in the USA. I think those impressive 360 holiday sales will start to disappear with the WiiU launch.

I hope you're right man. Halo 4 is this year, and I'm thinking there's gunna be a price drop, and I can just smell the kinect halo 4 100m$ advertising budget.
