By whom? Clueless, enthusiast gamers who think Samsung, Apple etc. charge some $500 for their stuff because it's that expensive to produce, or those who carelessly extrapolate from the PS3 and think expensive consoles inherently mean loss?

Maybe they are expending too much in advertising. Maybe they didn't recoup R&D costs yet. But there's no way they aren't making a raw profit on every unit sold.
