Forums - Nintendo - The Wii U is the perfect opportunity to bring multiplayer to the next level

What does the first sentence even mean? That many people don't buy a single game for their system, ever?

Single screen poses the same problem. I can just go to a friend's place and play any singleplayer game I want. Across several sessions most games can be finished that way.

It means that few people don't buy more than one software per console once they've bought a console. How is that not clear?

Sure you can, but what kind of friend would that make you? There's a great social factor involved.

It's not clear, because you are contradicting yourself. If most people buy several games for their system (and we know that this is the case, because of tie ratios between 7-10 games), then the big money isn't in the hardware.

Yes, it is. One less hardware means 7-10 less games + accessories.

Right. You have applied all sorts of twisted logic by now, so we'll just stop now.

The underlying issue is that you want Nintendo to focus on online multiplayer and anything else would just be a distraction that would hurt your experience, so you came up with all that crazy stuff you said.

If wishing Nintendo financial luck is an issue then I have nothing to add. And on top of that, I've said that allowing many local players would be awesome.

Hmm, interesting idea. I think the Wii already was very successful on multiplayer. I have sometimes friends at my place and we play Wii Sports/Resort, Raving Rabbids, Wii Play, Smash Brothers or Mario Kart. That already works well for Nintendo. They would be crazy giving up on this. I'm not against supporting more local players, but I don't think it would be needed often. Yes, Smash Brothers with six would be very cool. But reality is, I don't think most people get together six friends at once. I have a hard time coordinating my regular movie-evening, scheduling different people. Although over time I have around ten people participating, there were never more than four at one time. So increasing possibilities for local multiplayer is great, but I don't believe in a much bigger potential, than 4 player games.

Mixing local multiplayer and online would be a good option though.

COD does this hey! I've played team deathmatch with my friends a few times, me and my bud, playing on the same team, against and with other people online.

One note you didn't touch was the one tablet controller or two. That's what I was actually hoping this thread would be about.... Nintendo needs to fix their last E3 and state that it will at least work with two tablet controllers... hopefully more.

This is what worries me the most. Local multiplayer is essential for me.

OT: Super Smash Bros, and Battle in Mario Kart would be awesome. I used to play in a 21' split-screen 4 players, nowadays consumers are just too spoiled.
