I know that's a huge improvment, but I never looked at my Ipad and though... gee, it surely could have more resolution

I miss design and non-numerical changes. It's the same interface since 2006... that's what bugs me most! Windows 7 is already fantastic (I also have a HTC Titan) and 8 is looking even better interface-wise, and IOS is the same for another year.

It hasn't changed? http://www.theverge.com/2011/12/13/2612736/ios-history-iphone-ipad

Windows still has the same basic design since what Windows 95? Small slight differences, but still it's pretty much the same which is why it's easy for users who've used previous versions to jump right in. Windows 7 is nice, but I would've been happy still running WinXP myself. I actually didn't want to move over to XP from Win2K way back and it was a long time before I did.

I thought the same thing as well when I used my ipod touch 3rd gen. (same screen as the iphone 3g/3gs) and then I got my iphone 4 (first retina display) and I was blown away by how good the screen looked. Now when I look at my gf's ipod touch (same 3rd gen. model) it looks...wow 0_0 I thought my old iPad 1 screen looked pretty good as well, but I'll most likely be blown away again once I get my hands on the new iPad.

By "Windows 7" VicViper actually means "Windows Phone 7", unless that HTC Titan name dropping isn't supposed to make sense.

Yes, thank you. I'm talking about the metro interface that's the basis for WIndows 8 and xbox dashboard. That's the one that changes a lot of established  conventions. I don't know, when I look at Ipad it still looks like my first Iphone, back in 2007, which was a thing from god back then, but not anymore - but now on WP7 I have fun just by sliding screens you know?

I'm loving Metro myself (with my LG Optimus 7) and Windows 8 uses it incredibly well! It's just one reason why I don't have any desire to buy an iDevice at the moment. The fact that I will be able to get devices that can act as both fully fledged tablets and fully fledged laptops is really important to me, and completely renders Android and iOS devices moot for me.

4G support is nice. Shame we'll be on the iPad 7 by the time the UK has 4G everywhere...

Guess nobody has posted here in a while, but the new iPad screen is looking very nice! (some ipad and ipad 2 screen shots there)

Well the new iPad is out now. I just got these in the mail this morning (from the online Apple Store.) The screen is gorgeous! (The black one is mine.)

Screen is impressive, getting that high a pixel density on a screen that large.

However colour me underwhelmed by the new iPad, there doesn't seem to be anything innovative about it at all in terms of software, hardware or aesthetics.

This seems to be the final form for the iPad. It's probably why they called it the new iPad instead of iPad 3. From now on it's going to be the same tablet with beefier specs every year, just like their MacBooks and iMacs.

ot: The old screen never bothered me, 4G is pointless to me, good job on the camera though, the old one was just horrible :/

Big iOS updates only come once per year, and it's always for the iPhone. Previous iPads didn't bring new iOS features, so I'm not sure why you'd expect them now. However, previous iPads arrived with new iWork and iLife apps, and so did this one. The new iPhoto app is really quite good. I'd even go so far as to say it outclasses the desktop app. Simiilarly, the bluetooth jamming added to Garageband on iOS is a killer feature that the desktop app never had.

Hardware? That screen outperforms anything in this device category. Furthermore, Apple crammed a 70% larger battery into a package that was only 8% larger. Until the teardowns proved otherwise, many tech writers were convinced that Apple had access to some miraculous new battery tech, but it turns out that the mircale is killer hardware design. Doubling GPU performance doesn't seem too impressive, untl you realize that the original A5 was so far ahead of the game that nobody has yet shipped a tablet with graphics that compete with the iPad 2.

No new aesthetics? Got me there.

"Underwhelmed" is the response to every new Apple product. Somehow, those disappointing products consisently go on to sell twice as many units as the previous generation.

Cool but I prefer the new MacBook Air to be released soon.

Except for the photo-editing app none of those are really innovations, they're incremental.

I don't know, maybe I expect too much from new Apple products because the hype is always so high =/
