I hope people take this into account when deciding to purchase his game. I would never give my money to someone who puts down someones work. The Japanese Dev probably put a lot of effort into it. Jerk!

That's silly. A game should be judged on its merits, not on those of its creator.

Not entirely - If a Developer believes something you disagree with and his enforces that belief should you support it.?

I was saying what I would do. I said 'Hope' not 'Should'.  It's my opinion.

I will support it if the product is of good quality. I don't agree with the developers beliefs but it has nothing to do with the game he is making or his vision behind that game (which he himself states is inspired by the likes of Legend Of Zelda & 2D mario games).

My question is simple, why is Nintendo generally ignored when it comes to Japanese games?

Sorry... this is weak answer. It reminds me of the ppl who bitch and whine about EA/Activision .. but the minute they release that harbors the elements they claim they hate they still rush out and by it. Then you ask: I thought you hated EA? " oh well ummm ... I hate the company but the games they make are cool .. or I just wont support the part I hate".... yea.

I wouldn't support anybody thart does not a healthy mindset about this industry. Thats just me though.

are you serious? Nintendo is( or was) the main enemy of the western market. Most hate directly stems from Nintendo

"Jonathan Blow, who also discussed the drawbacks of modern Japanese games, was “way more constructive” with his feedback."

See, constructive criticism is fine, but that's hardly what Fish demonstrated with his pathetic public response.  Of course the guy is entitled to his opinion, but obviously that's not what we have a problem with here.  What a prick.

I think Barozi nailed it.

The way I see it, Japanese devs as a whole were very, very good till the very beginning of the last generation, then at least to me, there was a very noticeable drop in quality this gen, especially from Square and Capcom.

After the Atari crash in the early 80s, the 'power', like Degausser called it, shifted from the West to Japan due to Nintendo with the NES, and it remained there till the last generation, which coincided with the release of the first Western console (the original Xbox) in a very long time, the mega success of the GTA franchise and the migration of PC developers to home consoles.

It´s good that we still get a few Japanese gems (like the 'Souls' games) and that Nintendo has improved their games this generation when compared to the last (imo).

well...the japanese games industry isnt what it used to be.
even a lot of their big new games can just feel clunky, shallow, and dated with poor graphics, poor animations, and poor level design.
