Forums - Nintendo - Do you think the Wii U will have origin exclusive online?

Well so far Nintendo have just said that the WiiU's online will be publisher driven, so i wouldn't be surprised to see games requiring stream, origin, new_activision_service, Nintendo Network accounts and more.

That's how I see it. Everyone will have a Nintendo Network account, and whenever you use a third party one, it should integrate seamlessly with just a confirmation screen. No registration required, please, maybe letting people use their old third party account if they really want to.

Agreed. The system could work if it in essence allows you to take potential advantage of your existing Origin or whatever other account if you have one already, but if you don't, the Nintendo Network id should suffice. If they go the route of making others use their service, then you'll just end with a clusterfuck.

EA is a multiplatform business. There's no way it will put it's own DD channel on a single console.

The rumours said Nintendo was allowing third party DD services on the system, not that 3rd parties would be handling the OS.

Origin would never be required. Nintendo doesn't really give a damn about EA and would never make Origin an exclusive to the system. I see less than 1% chance of this happening.  Perhaps, Steam or Origin could end up on the Wii U but Nintendo would never force people to join a 3rd party online distributor. I am pretty sure Nintendo likes to be in control of their own eshop.

I despise Steam, and only the nerd people I know seem to like it. I am not sure about Origin, if it is better or worse. All I know is that everything that seems to go wrong with PC games nowadays is some sort of bug or connection issue linked to Steam.

I've had 0 issues in the past few years with steam and I have 140 games on it /shrug. Any game using Steamwork had no issues, the times where things are fucked up are usually games using gamespy network or games for windows live. Then again, I live in the US, where it's the home base of Steam, and on top of that, I live near Seattle, WA, which is pretty close to the home base of Valve, lol. It's a free service that offers group voice chat, cloud storage for saves, and huge friend list that work and costs nothing. Though I'd rather use Mumble for voice of course.

My expectations, based on the little we know about the service, is that Nintendo will allow third party publishers to integrate their own online services with what Nintendo provides with limited restrictions. The restrictions will (probably) be that the game must continue to work without the system being connected to the internet, users will need to be able to sign on using only their Nintendo Network account, and (hopefully) that all games must use a centralized friends list. For many companies this could (potentially) translate into new business models or game-play experiences which may or may not be better than what can be provided on existing online services.

I have enough faith in Nintendo to say that they won't let Origin on their console. EA is happy about the Wii U, simply because it means that Nintendo killed the goddamn Wii. EA is the devil.

I thought that was Sony for you? I'm confused. You need to rank your heirarchy of evil corps so they know where they stand with you. Otherwise how is one going to be able to point at the other and say "Hah! Rol hates you more than us!"

1) EA is the devil.

2) Microsoft, but only because they refrain from releasing crap on Nintendo systems. Otherwise they would be #1.

3) Sony, because they are an evil corporation as well.

There are more bad companies, but those three are far above the rest.

Seems pretty close to my list.
