My expectations, based on the little we know about the service, is that Nintendo will allow third party publishers to integrate their own online services with what Nintendo provides with limited restrictions. The restrictions will (probably) be that the game must continue to work without the system being connected to the internet, users will need to be able to sign on using only their Nintendo Network account, and (hopefully) that all games must use a centralized friends list. For many companies this could (potentially) translate into new business models or game-play experiences which may or may not be better than what can be provided on existing online services.
