Forums - Sony - How Sony can save the Vita

I think Sony 1st party should concentrate on JRPG games and cut back on games like their PS3 counterparts. What make the PSP my favorite hand held is because of their great JRPGs library. I don't want to purchase another Little Big Planet or Resistance on my hand held.

But currently the Vita is a great Hand Held that have a great future if Sony play their card right.

Not bad.

However, you made one mistake. The Vita will not be getting Dragon Quest X. No console other than those made by Nintendo will be getting DQX, at least for the next 10 years. It just won't happen; Nintendo wouldn't allow their killer app in Japan for the WiiU to be stolen by another company.

I wouldn't be so sure. Their "killer app" was exclusive the ps2 back in 2004, and then it move  to the DS and then was announced for the Wii. To me this  doesn't seem like this the result major bargaining power on the behalf of nintendo but instead, square picking whatever system was most popular at the time. Square announced DQX back in 2008 when the wii selling at the speed of light. The systems active userbase is now drying up, as seen by the poor sales of zelda and the lack of new games. Im sure given some incentive square would put it on the Vita. After all they will benefit from a wider platform of release. As for nintendo stoping it from going multiplat, DQ isn't Nintedo's killer app in japan, theres been one major title released in the last 5 years and it wad released whilst the DS was already a mega success. Nintendo isn't going to waste money trying to secure exclusivity for a title which they will benefit from anyways.

I'm well aware that the series moved, but it was for one installment only, and all DQ games have been exclusive to one company.

Don't expect that to change.

You say your aware but why was that one game on Sonys platform? Square has no loyalty to nintendo they put it on the ps2 because it will sell more. Its simply a matter of money.

It's simply a matter of installed base. And since vita's intalled base is growing slooooowly in japan, no chance whatsoever of that happening.

And 3DS already has 2 DQ games... so it's pretty obvious where the series is going to stay. Anyway, it can't be just me that finds the idea of a game Wii/Vita multiplat hilarious!

Stopped reading at number 1, memory cards are a smart way of Sony to earn some bucks, they're not very cheap either.

Funny how everyone must give their 2 cents to save a system/company/etc.

That sounds like something someone new to VGC would say...you shuld know by now that every company is doomed and the people here are the only ones who can save them.

Correct. It is a matter of money. So why would SE put a game on a console which is struggling in Japan, the main market for the game.

And if you reckon Nintendo haven't organised some exclusivity deal with SE, likely the same as MH4, then you're pretty naive. Nintendo won't let this get snatched from them, and so, it's not going to the Vita, or any other console (aside from maybe the 3DS).

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I wanna save the Vita too, they just have to lower the price of the Wifi version to 50 dollaz and get all the companies to produce some supa dupa exclusive games and they should add a 12MP camera becoz thats the hottest thing right now and they should include a 3rd analog stick just to be future proof

and oh yeah, they should add a 150GB SSD so you wont never run out of memory

Well to be fair in Sony case they are really finacially doomed. They need a lot of help to resurrect the company as a whole.

My arguement is, they've been doomed finacially (according to VGC posters anyway) since 2006 but yet they are still alive. The people here don't know shit but yet act like they do.

A lot of these are wishful thinking, something that is completely out of Sony's hands.

I think naming the system "Vita" was a massive mistake; particularly considering the name is very close to "Vista"; which is associated with all kinds of negativity.

1. The memory issue will require a re-designed system, which I agree they should do; this is something in their hands.

2. Making it #1 for small budget indie titles is impossible - iOS is already #1 there, and small budget indie titles are making millions there. This is out of Sony's hands.

3. Nintendo and Sony have both been doing this for years now. Between the Wii and 3DS, there are already hundreds of old titles available. It is more likely 3DS and Wii U, and even the Wii and PS3, will be much more successful here. Again, out of Sony's hands.

4. Stuff like Dragon Quest X on Vita is just incredible wishful thinking. First of all, Enix has been releasing all their DQ titles on Nintendo systems for years now, and they have been breaking series sales records. It is not likely they will release a main series game on a system that is probably going to fail. They have traditionally always released it on the top selling consoles, and this is certainly not going to be the Vita. Chalk #4 up to extremely wishful thinking, and out of Sony`s hands.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

1. You are right here but that kinda doesn't make up for the fact that these memory cards can still only be used on the vita and nothing else.

2. Here's a analogy for you " Only hipster gamers buy a $2000 gaming pc just to play indie games."

3.This is not going to happen due to licensing agreements that Microsoft and Nintendo would be insane if they agreed to. You see games like Chrono Trigger and FF6 on PSN because SquareSoft ported them to the PS1. You see all of Sega's, Neo-Geo's, and Turbografix's retro games on all platforms because they are out of the console business and want you to buy digital versions of their old games. You see Banjo-Kazooie and Perfect Dark on XBLA because Microsoft bought Rare and then negotiated with Nintendo to release the games. If you say just port over the exsisting code, then please tell me what button to press on the Vita when the game prompts me to "press A to jump?" You can get games like "Enter the Matrix" because it was put out on all of the platforms last generation and a direct port to PS3 would just use the PS2 version, but thinking that Sony can put up KoToR because Microsoft doesn't own the rights to is borderline nonsensical. The Third party companies would have to have waste so much time just to change the code and deal with negotiating the licensing that it just wouldn't make sense to spend all the resources to do the port.

4. Learn the definition of exclusive. All of those games can/ are going to be able to be played on consoles that are not the Vita.

The real problem with the Vita right now is that more people are skeptical now that since Nintendo did a drastic cut early in the life of the 3DS that Sony might do the same. Once it happens to the memory cards, system, and game prices, then I will see the Vita piking up steam.

At what point did i say developers could port games at no additional cost. The money invested will need to be weighed up against the potential revenue gained from sales. "thinking that Sony can put up KoToR because Microsoft doesn't own the rights to is borderline nonsensical" 0_o .....I was refering to sony negotiating with developers and publishers to have their games put on PSN. I assume this is how current HD collections which were once exclusive to the ps2 are appearing on the 360. I've corrected the 4th point, i meant multi-platform as well as exclusives.
