Oh, and Donkey Kong Country is an awesome series. The first three are to this day three of the very best platformers ever made. Probably the only platformer I liked more than Donkey Kong Country 2 was Super Mario Galaxy 2.

I know, right? I mean, great level design, unmatched presentation, tonnes of collectibles, bonus levels, secrets, and the perfect difficulty curve. I just don't see how anyone can honestly say the DKC games were 'dull' or 'plodding'. if he didn't care for them, I respect that, but to say they're inferior when they're easily some of the best made platformers of all time is just begging for the flames.
Levels - 6-8 worlds per game, each with 5-8 levels. inventive bosses capping off each and every world dozens of collectible bananas that also help guide you if you get lost or hint at bonuses. Bonus levels for completionists, each housing a minigame of sorts side quests such as the brothers bear item exchange, banana birds, DK coins, etc Wide variety of level themes and locales Minigames and trivia stuff through the second and third games hidden bonus worlds that you can unlock
There's just so much to do, to point out one 'flaw' (I don't like collecting bananas) is just dumb. Not to mention Donkey Kong has always had more to do than Mario; another game series I've always adored.

I don't appreciate being called dumb because I don't like a game. That's just a jerky thing to say, especially about something as trivial as an opinion of a piece of entertainment. This isn't politics or anything that really matters. A person's taste in games can't be stupid.
Lots of levels don't matter if I don't find them compelling.
The boss designs were good, but I thought the actual battles where mundane.
Collecting bananas could be, even should, be fun, but I didn't have fun. How would you get lost? Maybe if the levels weren't so flat.
I'm not a completionist, I don't even look at percentages.
The only games I actively do side quests in are the Mass Effect and Zelda games.
Yep, good variety in themes, but to me the levels feel mostly the same.
I NEVER do mini-games unless forced and then I hate the devs for making me do them.
Hidden bonus stuff is always nice, but if I didn't enjoy the main game I'm not going to want more, am I?
Oh and I'm not the only one who thinks DK Country is overrated. It made two respected publication's lists of most overrated games of all time.
EGM: DK Country #2 on list of "10 Most Overrated Games"
Gamespy: DK Country #9 on list of "25 Most Overrated Games of all Time"
Are they "dumb" too, or maybe it's just that not everything you love is universally as exclaimed as you think it should be. You may love DK Country and think it's better than some other platformers. But, please consider that not everyone agrees with you and their opinion is just as valid as yours. It is, after all, a matter of taste. I love Donkey Kong arcade, you don't. You love DK Country, I don't. Why am I "dumb" for dissliking your "classic". I don't think you are dumb for disslikeing my "classic".
