^My question is if NDA's are meant to protect stock market value, why wouldn't Nintendo release atleast some of the information to boost their stock above 18$ then?

I understand theres a two fold problem here. One side, shareholders, think its positive to manufacture cheaper consoles, and bring more profit (i don't see Apple investors caring that Samsung spends more on their tablets for eg.), whereas the other side, core gamer/ tech heads, thinks OH GOD WERE ALL GONNA DIE!

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

New Wii U Rumor! Analyst claims that the Wii U has 50% more processing power than the Xbox 360/PS3!

Coming from the latest issue of Game Informer...

"Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia says that developers told him the Wii U will have 50 percent more processing power than the Xbox 360 and PS3, but Nintendo hasn't confirmed this rumor."

http://gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=175540

Sound believable. That would be enough to use the screen and the control display at the same time and still make the games look a little better than their 360 and PS3 counterparts (steady framerate with better AA maybe?)

To start with, how were they to know an analyst in Japan would downgrade their stock based on rumors?  Especially when rumors and facts on the contrary exist.

Secondly, given that there is more to Nintendo than just the Wii U, they can boost stock via other means such as a successful software launch, today's Nintendo Direct conference, PAX event, etc...

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Sorry if this debate has annoyed Viper. It's just that, while I agree that NDA's are necessary and that Nintendo is usually very secretive, having an NDA so strict is harming them now.

I don't want need tech details, but knowing which multiplat games are being ported to ihe WiiU or seeing something (just a small glimpse, 1 image in a printed magazine that shows that it doesn't look worse) could easily prove some rumors wrong and show that 3rd parties are really on board, and they could do that without revealing anything.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

And they fully plan on doing just that.  It's E3.  Analysts seem to be forgeting this fact.

And keep in mind that it isn't just Wii u they are being so scretive with, they did this with lots of things.   We didn't even know about NSMB Wii and Donkey Kong Country Returns until the E3 before their launch.  That's unheard of for big games.

Nintendo schedules the dissemination of information better than anyone in the industry.  Analysts don't like that and hang on everything anyone says regardless of how accurate or inaccurate it may be.    Can that be detrimental to Nintendo?  At times, but it also works heavily in their favor.

I agree.

And I suspect this rigid NDA is related to what happened last year when we knew about the tablet controller weeks before E3. They don't want it to happen again!

I get your points and, in parts, I agree with them. But

How about a financial reason?   Stock values can fluctuate based on information.   Nintendo could be holding back information via NDA's to keep stock at a certain projected value until they are ready to unveil the information at which time they expect the stock value to rise.  If the stock figures are part of their expected fianncial data they give to stock holders, they need to control the information that affects their stock price as much as possible.

Their silence is allowing "anonymous" sources to make claims that are harming their stock's value more than needed. And holding back info now to make their stocks rise when revealed is a risky business as no one knows if (given they are good news) they will rise enough to compensate the decline they are suffering now from those rumors. A small tidbit from Iwata could put an end on most of these rumors without any compromise.

Maybe they are buying back stock so they want their shares to drop. THen when they finally reveal and stocks goup they start to sell.

From memory, Microsoft do this a lot buy back when shares are low and hold on till price goes up when they ready to launch a new windows version and sell.

Nicalis’ next Nintendo game is 1001 Spikes. The studio will be releasing it on the 3DS eShop as well as Wii U’s digital store.

1001 Spikes is a remake of the indie title Aban Hawkins & the 1000 Spikes made by 8bits Fanatics. It was released on the Xbox Live Marketplace last year.

The 3DS/Wii U edition will feature new art, visuals, music, sound, and a multiplayer mode. Four users will be able to play together locally.

1001 Spikes will be released this year. It’ll be available on the 3DS eShop first and on Wii U sometime after.

More Wii U Praise! This time from Nicalis!

Speaking about the new system at iDÉAME 2012, Rodriguez told Blogocio that it’s “all too far the most powerful console in the history of Nintendo” (rough translation). He believes it will be competing on the market “for 5 or 10 years.”

Rodriguez was also questioned about the Wii U’s power. Although Nicalis hasn’t fully exploited the console (doing so is unnecessary for the company’s projects), Rodriguez stated that it should meet gamers’ expectations.

Ultimately, though, Rodriguez said the experience will matter the most. He thinks we’ll be comparing the quality of games rather than the visual prowess of consoles.

Some of this shouldn’t come as a surprise – who thought the Wii U wouldn’t be Nintendo’s most powerful console? It’s nonetheless encouraging to see encouraging comments from a studio like Nicalis.
