Forums - Gaming - Yours biggest pet peeve about games

I hate it when companys milk the crap out of there games, that's why i refuse to buy any Call of duty games.

Also hate that annoying game character that's in every RPG! why are they there!! Why are you yelling so much with that high pitch voice shut up!

Completely unnecessary boss battles (End of UC2 comes to mind first)

1. Games where there is in game dialogue (to do with the story) but while the dialogue is going on it only lets your character slowly walk around, you have to wait until your guy shuts the fuck up so you can start moving full speed.

Worst offender: Gears of War (the slow walking scenes where Marcus is on the comm with other people)

2. Also games where if you fail/die and you have to reload the last checkpoint, but at the start each time you fail you have to rewatch all or part of the cutscene and you can't skip it. I don't want to have to watch a boring ass cutscene 100 times because one part of the game is hard and I keep dying.

Worst offender: Splinter Cell Conviction, I also think Rainbow Six Vegas does this. So essentially Tom Clancy games seem to be the worst offenders.

3. Pointless real-time action scenes. Like where a button (X, Y, B, A, etc.) pops up on the screen and you either have to press it or mash it quickly. Now these are cool in some games like God of War, but some games I've played they just have you do it for menial tasks like opening doors or moving objects.

Worst offenders: Can't think of too many, but I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about. I'm pretty sure Batman Arkham Asylum had some of these, among many other games.

4. In online games, where you have a lobby full of people and the game won't begin until half (or in some cases) every person has hit a "ready up" button.

Worst offenders: NHL 12. Luckily in the mode I play there is a 1 minute 30 second timer so the game will start when time runs out even if everyone hasn't hit "ready", but still the fact that 11 people can have hit ready but 1 fucking douchebag hasn't hit ready so we all have to wait 90 seconds just pisses me the fuck off.

5. Online games where someone can pause it and it pauses everyone.

Worst offenders: Saints Row series and again NHL 12 (or just sports games in general). I can see why developers have them for sports games, but it's still annoying as shit when someone pauses the game and slows it down (again, 1 douchebag can pause it and it effects all other 11 people)....but in Saints Row its just pointless and fucking stupid to have it pause when your online co-op buddy pauses it to go take a shit.

I like your rant lol.

(continued from my previous post)

6. Scripted events. Come on dude obviously that explosion was programmed to go off when I got to a certain spot in the game and I was never in any danger. You aren't fooling anybody, these sorts of things should disappear. Of course the other end of the spectrum would be random deaths which I wouldn't want either...but less lame ass scripted events please.

Worst offender: Call of Duty, among other FPS single player campaigns.

7. When there is a cool ass gun in a game but you never have enough ammo for it to be useful. I get they don't want you having an overpowered gun the whole game, but at least give me enough ammo to have a bit of fun with it, or after you beat the game once you can have way more ammo or something.

Worst offender: Too many to name, but one that comes to mind is Resistance Fall of Man, the Hailstorm was one of the coolest guns in the game, but you only ever got a few magazines of ammo for it, you never had enough to use it as more than just a novelty.

8. Random limits on things in games. Games are meant to be fun, so I hate when you find something really fun to do in a game, but you can only do it so many times. The thing that came to mind when I was thinking of this is fighting in the NHL series. You are limited to 3 fights per game in the online mode. If me and my buddy want to play and just fight each other the whole game, who is EA to say we can only fight 3 times? I know they want it to be a hockey game and not Fight Night, but let us do fun things if we want.

Worst offender: Well NHL 12 was my example, but I'm sure each of you can think of other things you like to do that are limited for no real good reason.

9. Games not getting patched, especially huge budget/selling games. My example is of course Call of Duty, mainly Modern Warfare 2. It was the fastest selling game of all time when it came out but things like exploiting One Man Army and Commando never got patched? What?!? I know there was the trouble between Infinity Ward and Activision where like half the guys at IW ended up quitting, but you would still think a company like Activision would care enough about its customers to have its game fixed. I know they just care about the money, and I'm fine with that...but if you piss off all your customers they will eventually stop buying your products.

Worst offender: Infinity Ward Call of Duty games (Treyarch is much better at patching things), NHL series (there are still tons of cheap/glitch goals), and probably every other online game in the world has things that need patched that won't ever get patched.

10. Having weapons or some type of "feature" in an online game who's only purpose served is to piss others off. Things like Dead Man's Hand in MW3, deathstreaks in general in the MW series, Noob tubes in the CoD series, basically anything that takes no skill to use but gets you easy kills in a game like CoD. They seem to spend more time making their game Noob friendly than they do actually making it good so their "hardcore" audience likes it.

Worst offender: Call of Duty, among other games with cheap weapons such as grenade launchers.

Battling Lazarevic was fun! The last "boss" of UC3, now that was horrible.

OT: I don't like constantly being told what to do. It's one of the few flaws of Batman: Arkham City, Batman won't shut up:

- "If I knock him out, I won't be able to get information from him"
- "He's got that cop hostage if he sees me he's gonna kill him."
- "They have guns, I should avoid being seen"

Signature goes here!

So uhh...where can we shove in this multiplayer?

This is the control scheme, like it or lump it sucker!!

DLCs baby!!

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

Landmines, always seem to slow me down.

The complete and utter devastation of near every genre due to games being dumbed down to appeal to a "broader audience".

Facebook games and cheap wares in iPhone and Android stores. With the sheer amount of people downloading and buying these (or simply using them, providing incredible income through advertising) and the incredible profit margins, this type of "game" is stealing focus from proper development and laying waste to talent all over (like the former Westwood veterans being forced to make shit games for the N-Gage).

Production times, Valve and Blizzard are both in my top five developers of all time but they also take their sweet ass time to release games. How long has it been since Half-Life 2: Episode 3? And Diablo II? The Starcraft franchise took well over a decade to produce a sequel.

Lack of production times; products that are clearly rushed and either full of bugs and flaws or simply so similar to the previous iterations that it might as well be labelled an expansion pack.

Fanboys... this one is self explanatory.

@Marks i agree with everything you said. (shouldn't be a surprise) the Rocket launcher thing is the reason i stopped playing KZ2 and any other online shooter, although imo, KZ2 still has the best online multiplayer of any FPS.

KZ3 to come extent aswell. to much useless changes, and the weapons that go with each class for the most part are just plan stupid.

the spot and mark (or recon ability) was useless (last time i played KZ3) i like d the idea of how the screen would scan and marks would show up on people, but it didn't always work.

when you make an ability, make sure it works. i also hate games that have snipers, but the game doesn't catter to the class ie kz3.

my biggest pet peeve, is difficulty settings. normal, hard, easy ect. the lot of them are plan pointless. KZ3 and 2 had some of the best AI regardless of difficulty.

if you're going to have different difficulty settings, then make sure it's based on smartter AI, insted of making health disappear faster.
