Forums - Sales Discussion - PS Vita to be the number one selling console/handheld in the new gen

PLAYSTATION NETWORK. Cross-platform gameplay.

Nuff said.

This must be a joke.

The games won't even be the same between the Vita and the PS4 incarnations... Maybe with PS3 there may be some cross-platform gameplay but I doubt it!

Anyway if it happens I'll be colored orange.

I disagree with some here... it isnt too early to say

It just isnt going to happen.

Sony managed to sell 60 MILLION PS3s despite the $599 launch price.

I think Vita has a chance  to outsell the 3DS. Not now, not in 6 months. Let's see where Vita sales stand in 18-24 months compared to 3DS.

It is  100% guaranteed that the gap between the two will be bigger than what it is now in 24 months. I think that ship has already sailed. Maybe after  Vita becomes cheaper it may close the gap.

Exactly... I dont think some people understand how simple mathematics works

It will be behind almost each and every week for the next 24 months... almost guaranteed.  Therefore it will be a loooooong way behind by then.

and remind me.... how long did that $599 launch price stay for?  8 months was it and then it was cut by 20%.  I dont see a $50 cut for thr PSV before Christmas.

The gap is about 15 million now, isn't it? Even if 3DS stops selling today it would be difficult for Vita to outsell it in 18 months. It isn't likely that 3DS stops selling today.

I am not that negative about it though. It is a great device and hopefully with good word of mouth it will perform similar to PSP. Unlike many, I think PSP did good. Vita needs to move more software of course.

  • Sony is in a very serious financial crisis. It is even not for sure that Sony still exists in a two years!

With Playstation division staying profitable they wouldn't have trouble finding buyer for this part of company - remember it's TV business that is dragging Sony to the bottom

This thread won't end well.

Oh, and @michael above,
The big software is coming, I can't wait. I also believe that vita does not need to outsell 3ds. It's not a big deal. Let's just get that huge software and play some great games.

And they currently still 3rd place this gen behind the Wii and 360.  And don't forget the PS3 lost billions of dollars that the PS1 and PS2 made for them.

I love my Vita and 3DS.

I hate Sony fans for ruining it for me.

Sales are only an indicator. But if all that matters is that those in the community you share tastes with also enjoy a great platform with the games you like, then who cares really?

But, if the business side matters, then yeah the thread becomes important.

The day the PSVita gets exclusive big 3rd party titles (a mainline Final Fantasy) or something megaton like that, then the 3DS business might give a blink. Otherwise the stage is set for the 3DS as the sales winner, if that matters to anyone.

Thank you for the entertainment, Gilgamesh. I'm especially fond of how cavalierly you predict 1) a price drop, 2) an RE, MH, and FF game, none of which have been announced and two of which are already on the 3DS, 3) a CoD title, and 4) not knowing "how long Nintendo can keep up the remakes and sequels to the same games they have" when you say they've successfully been doing it for "decades."

Good times. Fight the good fight!

Seriously though...  I feel where he is coming from.  I was probably labeled just as disillusioned back in the mid 2000 when I swore Nintendo was on a comeback.  I was mainly laughed at and I suppose that is the fate karma had in store for Sony fans.  They were never really good sports in the "console wars" and they got what they deserved.  Having their favorite company make mistake after mistake last gen only helped worsen things for them.  They just had a terrible "plan" for the start of the generation.  They finally got their head out of their ass but it was too late.  They still ended up decently but nowhere near where they should have if they actually had a good plan for this home console generation.

I've said it many times Nintendo has held the handheld crown for far to long the Vita is hear and it's a force to reckon with. What with the perfect controls to a handheld gaming device, great new app features (so does the 3DS) and some of the top graphics out there (since when better graphics = more sales?) it's only a matter of time before it begins to outsell the competition. Price is a little way to high for now but as price cut's come sales will explode time after time (as we saw with the PSP, oh wait...).

Games like Monstrer Hunter (MH4 announced only for 3DS), Resident evil (not announced while 3DS already got 2 RE titles) and Final fantasy (not announced) hit in Japan there's no telling how high sales can get, and Call of Duty (not announced) in Amarica, now finally with the perfect controls and portability it's going to be a huge hit (CoD is no relevant on handheld) . And of course the one and only big game Gran Turismo would be absolute devine in Europe (See GT PSP sales), throw in some Fifa games (See FIFA games sales on PSP) and we once again we got some big system sellers few million sellers

Now I can see the 3DS market drying up within a few years (oh really?), there main seller is the 3D their games and there really isn't much potential there (heard that argument about motion control last gen...), a lot of complaints of head aches (Never heard about that) and limiting age group (there is no limiting age on Vita's games?), the updated graphics isn't huge (about the same as N64 to Wii) and from what we seen from the Wii it limited the amount of quality games from other big companies (since when better graphics = better quality?), there's a huge library of games out now can be ported to the PS Vita with similar graphics, huge potential (the same goes with 3DS with the plus value of 3D graphics). And honestly I dunno how long Nintendo can keep up the remakes (they give what customers want, just look at the sales of those remakes) and sequels to the same games they have (lol and there is no sequels from Sony, won't enumerate them all...) , how many more decades are people going to buy basically the same game with updated graphics and a new name of console next to the title (why not asking the same question for Sony franchises?), not saying they don't make new IP's but they really should invest more money in it.

Yeh the PS Vita has a way to go but give it time, soon enough it'll take over (wishful thinking) much like the PS3 (PS3 is still in third position) many more price cuts left to come.

I added some corrections, just for fun :)

LOL, excellent thread G-Mesh!
