There are still a large quantity of great articles. As many as there ever was, probably. They just make up a far smaller proportion of the overall sum of articles, as the site is trying to appeal to loads of different demographics now, rather than sticking to its original one.

It's the same thing as with the members. There are still a load of great members here, you just have to look a bit harder under the sea of not-so-great members.

The news section, over time, became a place where quantity trumped quality. Every piece of crap article that no one cared about was posted until the integrity of the news section was destroyed, and we're still feeling the effects of that now. Even though it has calmed down a good bit, it's a far cry from the day when our articles were huge hits on Digg and could hit 200,000+ views.

People want to read interesting articles and not have to sift through an overwhelming load of information that they don't care about. The site in general has suffered from this bout of information overload.

It's really been the culmination of a series of very poor hiring decisions and arguably even worse regulation. It had grown so god awful, we decided to just scrap the whole thing.

Don't worry, though, articles will be back on the new site, without the quotas, and with a focus on quality rather than overwhelming boatloads of crap.

Rol stopped making threads due to not being able to top his previous performances.  Oh you were talking about news articles...

Honestly, it went all downhill once they hired that Patrick McNamara guy. I'm just glad he finally had the decency to leave gamrFeed... but at that point the damage had already been done.

Wow, that entire part of the site got sliced off.

...can't say I'm bothered though.

EDIT: Who's McNamara? What was his username?
