Yes, sorry...PS3

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Around the Network

We're at over 800 points! Can we reach 1,000?

All things considered, we have a pretty diverse array of publishers appearing so far on the list. Even Square Enix takes up less than a sixth of the spots, and Nintendo less than a ninth.

Expect to start seeing line charts in a month or so, when I can get some April vs May data.

A Breakdown of Publishers by Point Distribution. Publishers with less than 10 points are not shown.

Things worth noting:

1. Nintendo dominates their platforms for a reason; even in a multiplatform free for all, their ten games gather over a quarter of the votes. Even excluding Xenoblade, Nintendo has several games with over 20 points, including Luigi's Mansion 2, Paper Mario, and Fire Emblem. And as information on the Wii U comes in, there are bound to be more points for games like Pikmin 3.

2. Square Enix has 16 titles, counting the same game on multiple systems as multiple titles. Even after combining games, they still have numbers on their side. Many of these titles though, such as some of their upcoming 3DS games and the still largely enigmatic Dragon Quest X, have  less than the average number of points (between 8 and 9).

3. What Sony lacks in number of games (Only 6), they make up for in points per title. For example, Gravity Rush is the only Vita game with a double digit number of points. A few other PS3 games like Sorcery and Sly Cooper 4 are off the radar, but The Last Guardian and The Last of Us are both doing rather well.

4. Microsoft and XSEED each only have a single title voted for: Halo 4 and The Last Story.

5. Activision and Ubisoft, despite the high number of games they sell, fared pretty poorly. EA isn't even on the list, though its worth noting that had this been a March edition, Mass Effect 3 would have scored highly.

I'm going to look over some old data to practice making line charts.

1) Last of Us (PS3)
2) Starhawk (PS3)
3) F1 2012 (PS3)
4) Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (PS3)
5) Pokemon Black/White 2 (DS)

Such a shame that Journey and Kid Icarus: Uprising couldn't be included.

Last of Us is 5 points, right?

Yeah.

Slices of the PlayStation family pie, as determined by over 250 points of data.

1. Sony has over 1/3 of the votes on their platforms. As mentioned earlier, Sony is one of the strongest publishers overall, even when going multiplatform. The Last of Us, Starhawk, Gravity Rush, and The Last Guardian are all widely anticipated.

2. Square Enix is the only publisher with an anticipated PSP game, Final Fantasy Type 0. In addition, they are a major force on the Vita, with FFX HD being one of the more anticipated games on the platform, and the PS3, where Western series like Tomb Raider and Hitman combine their forces with Final Fantasy once again. Indeed, Final Fantasy titles, though they appear on nearly every notable system in a generation, seem to be particularly affiliated with the PlayStation family.

3. Every single Namco Bandai game so far has been for the PS3. Tales of Graces is their only major upcoming hit on any platform, but combined with all their minor games, Namco Bandai has achieved its niche in the PS3 library.

4. Western developers make up only a small minority of PlayStation anticipation. This is reflected by the fact that the PS3 is strongest in Japan.

Now for the same thing with Nintendo platforms! Remember, we're measuring points.

And you thought Sony was a big deal!

1. What can be said about Nintendo's dominance? A few things actually. First, they're the only one with a DS game, so that's a monopoly. Also, they've got Xenoblade, the most popular game so far. Throw in a generous helping of future 3DS hits like Luigi's Mansion, Animal Crossing, 2D Mario, and Fire Emblem, and throw in Pikmin 3 for jollies, and you have a titanic publisher. Like I've said before, even in a multiplatform free for all, Nintendo is a big flipping deal. On their own platforms... no contest.

2. XSEED's single game is The Last Story. It's widley anticipated on the internet. It probably won't sell as well as people want it too. DOn't know what else to say really.

3. Square Enix actually has a healthy number of games on Nintendo platforms. You have Bravely Default, a couple of Dragon Quest games, Theatrhythm, Kingdom Hearts, and Heroes of Ruin. However, these games don't seem to be drawing much interest, save for Bravely Default. I suspect these games will do alright, but Square Enix needs to get the hype train going.

4. Capcom is on this list because of the Ace Attorney and Layton Crossover combined with Monster Hunter. All of these are 3DS games, so perhaps I'll do a 3DS-only chart to see how they stand there.
