Forums - Gaming - VGC helps VGC - Beat a game and tell us what you think!

Hey guys,

I know I already made a thread like this, but since I can't find it, it is probably gone forever.

This thread shall be about YOUR gaming tastes to share with the community. I think we have quite a few gamers on VGC that love to play niche games and instead of just saying "it was awesome!" you can write a very short summary here and rate the game. Feel free to write a few sentences and recommend a game for the whole VGC community.

So whenever you finish a game, let us know what you think. It doesn't matter if it is niche or mainstream, core or casual. I want to hear your personal oppinion. Of course the platform doesn't matter either - Handheld, consoles, iOS, android, Windows Phone, PC everything is welcome. I think it will be very entertaining to see what the community thinks of a certain game. It might give more information than the broken review system we have to deal with every day.

The only rule is: You must have finished the game.

So I will start:

I just finished Gears of War 3. It was an absolutely awsome gaming experiences and probably one of the best shooters I ever played. I always like to get a complet picture of a gaming series, so I finished Gears 1 and 2 before. The game is just pure over the top action and it knows it. It is like watching a Michael Bay movie - you don't expect anything else than Action very well executed. There are a ton of "OMG!!!-Moments" when I noticed I was actually laughing. Epic found a way to raise the bar of these over the top moments trough out the whole game. The story improved over part 1 and 2 as well.

I disliked the multiplaye though. I am just not getting into it. Some love it, I do not. Horde is another story, but the competitve gaming just does not feel right with Gears.

Now your turn: finish a game and share your thoughts with us.

Finished it 2 or 3 days ago and currently trying to achieve the full gamerscore. An FPS with great story telling and also fantastic art style (cel shade look). However the game is unfortunately rather short, but does have a co-op mode (that you can also play alone) with a story that goes side-by-side with the main story. But since it's meant to be played in co-op it's mostly just enemies running/shooting at you and you need to clean the areas. Also has some seperate co-op missions.
Great game IMO. Probably not worth full price, but certainly not for the bargain bin either

(I hope this counts even though I finished it in the past. But hey only 2-3 days ago )

Finally finished this one!

Another great game. It won a lot of GOTY awards and rightfully so. The epic landscape with an incredible love for details plus a scenario that really feels fresh make this game a unique experience for this generation of consoles. At the same time the gigantic map you are moving on is its biggest weakness. There might be a situation where you have to ride to a mission for 4 minutes without any action on the screen other than a dialogue and you holding the A button. The mission turns out to be an ambush, you get killed and you see yourself riding another 4 minutes with the very same dialogue, waiting for the ambush. That really killed some fun for me. It needs to be mentioned that the synchronisation is probably the best one in the industry (even slightly better than Uncharted, which comes in as a close 2nd). The story really proves that an open world scenario can work with a deeper story if done right.

My rating: 9.3 / 10

I had reservations about this game because I disliked 13 and before release, almost every thing I heard about this game told me I wasn't going to like it...until I played the demo...Amazing stuff. From start to finish I enjoyed the demo and I instantly knew I wanted to play the full game. Luckily, the game was just like the demo only better. Enjoyable gameplay and even with a story about time travel it still made sense...at least more sense than 13 anyway. I wasn't too keen on hearing the game was going to have DLCs but after playing it, I might give the GOTY/Complete version of the game a try.

8/10 Definetely worth a play, welcome Back Square Enix, all is forgiven.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Pretty much beat Pilotwings Resort (3DS) recently. While I don't have all the stars (only have 6/9 stars from the platinum missions) I have pretty much beat the game. While most were quick to talk shit about the game when it was released I believe this is a pretty damn fun game. It probably suits more laid back players or stoners. This is a game you can easily enjoy while smoking a few bowls and fly around high (while high). I probably spent at least 8-10 hours (I'll update more accurate) on the missions getting them all to 3 stars each and a few hours in free flight mode. They have a decent amount of variety of various flying machines such as the rocket belt, super rocket belt, plane, jet plane, glider, pedal glider and one mission has the flying suit (would have been cool to have in free flight where you just keep getting dropped from the sky after a parachute land. Anyways, if you have a 3DS then you should get this game new on Amazon (to help the sales). I picked mine up for under 20 (including shipping) on Amazon before the holidays and I believe it is definitely worth at least 20 dollars in the amount of enjoyment this title can bring.

8/10 for a GOTY candidate is pretty low, but you have your standards I guess. I just can't get into JRPGs even though I would like to.

I think people place too much emphasis on the numbers, In my opinion, 8/10 is not a bad store, even then 8/10 is a very good score that most games should aspire to. Even though I have given it 8/10 it's still my current GOTY and as far as I'm aware with the games coming up, this will be my GOTY until the last half of the year.

Yup, I finally finished CoD MW3.

I played through the whole game on veteran and it was everything I expected it to be, but nothing more.
I am probably one of the very few people who think that IW and Treyarch don't need to change something dramatically. It is what it is and it is good at it. You have quiet a few over the top moments during the campaign. Not as much as you see in Gears 3, but there is a constant level of Action. The story is not groundbreaking, but feels completed now. The online gameplay offer quite a few game modes, but "starter-friendly" difficulty. The balance of the weapons is not its strength, the maps are okay though.

You know what you pay for: 8.8 / 10
