Forums - Nintendo - Resident Evil's success on the Wii so far

One of the things i'm very thankfull for my wii so far is breathing more life into the Resident Evil series for me personally - looking at the results Capcom have had with their 2 titles so far (and both still seem to be crawling along at a steady pace), Looking at the sales for Resident Evil it's pretty clear that the Wii version is gonna overtake the Gamecube version sometime in 08.

Resident Evil 4 PS2 2.52m

Resident Evil 4 GC 1.66m

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition Wii 1.32m

Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles Wii 0.72m

Capcom have obviously tested the waters in 07 with Wii owners and the Resident Evil series and I feel that they must be happy that they were the second 3rd party company to hit a million seller for the Wii and look like both titles are gonna do that. With this in mind that in 08 the Wii will see RE4 Wii edition being the second most popular version - only narrowly being beaten by the steller PS2 version that had a far bigger user base to reach those sales and a total of 2.04M sales to date for RE series on the Wii, I feel that we are going to see a lot more of this series on the Wii and it must be going through Capcoms mind that if a Wii version of RE5 was released there is a very good chance of it having massive legs.

I know the whole RE5 for Wii thing has been done to death but surely when you consider 360 / PS3 hasn't had a RE yet and this is untested waters where Capcom now have these kind of figures in front of them they must be considering it

"With the DS, it's fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen, but I fear that it won't have a lasting impact beyond that of a gimmick - so the long-lasting appeal of the platform is at peril as a direct result of that." - Phil Harrison, Sony

Umberella chronicles is doing better than I expected TBH

Since RE is my 2nd favourite series (after Zelda) I hope we'll see more of it.
The Wii certainly looks like a viable platform for RE games, since both games outperformed the expectations by a wide margin already, but I'm sure RE5 will do good on PS360. I don't expect it to appear on Wii, since the trailer looks way beyond Wii's capacities. I'll have to decide on whether I'll buy a PS3 or Xbox for RE5.

But Capcom stated that RE4Wii and UC were more or less testcases, so be prepared for a real new RE Wii game. I hope with Wesker or Jill. Maybe Capcom can explain what happened between RE3 and 4 in that game, since RE5 with Chris will take place after 4 (at least that's what I heard).

Anyway, there's more than enough unclear storyline to make a great RE game next to RE5, and that will go to Wii.

Capcom has been awfully quiet about the game after first announcing it. If they're still working on it as a 360/PS3 multiplat, then that's probably how it'll be released (later Wii port possible), but they might've changed it into a multiplat for all consoles, or even a Wii exclusive (not likely) for all we know.

Umbrella Chronicles is showing surprising legs. I was pretty sure it wouldn't reach a million, but now it looks like it just might be able to crawl up there eventually.

Funny how RE4 for PS2 whent from 1.9m to 2.5m just over this last week. Must've updated the figures or added a region that was missing.

Yes, it would be nice to see RE5 for the Wii. Though naysayers are plentiful if you want to make your voice heard to Capcom in order to help make this so, here is a link for the petition.

It would be so easy to make a Wii RE, just take the engine for the Wii version of RE4, i'm surprised Capcom hasn't announced a new RE game for Wii yet

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Well Tyagi, Nintendo has said they'll be keeping future projects under tighter wraps so the News may be held from the public until a more appropriate time.

thanks - i've added my signature, I do think there's a better chance of us seeing a remade RE classic (probably 2nd) with the over the shoulder view.

Regardless of the graphical differences for RE5 - I still think they must be considering removing a lot of the details and try scaling it down to fit on Wii as RE is looking to be one of the most popular Wii third party franchises.

Maybe because 3 RE games in less then a year would be overkill that could hurt the sales of the currently available ones.

Fans of the series should buy Umbrella Chronicles because the game is ok, but it's a blast to revisit the old locations (especially the mansion) and fill the gaps in the story.

BTW am I the only one that really liked the camera settings in the pre-4 games. The controls were pretty bad in these games, but I loved the tension that was caused by the static camera. I missed that in 4 (though everything else in that was amazing).

Think you are BengaBenga - I certainly didn't miss it
