Forums - Nintendo - Metal Gear Solid Demo is out!

Anyone tried it yet? I downloaded the demo yesterday and got to the end of it. The game is pretty impressive to look at. While RE: Reveations is still the better looking game, it's not worlds apart like I thought it would be. Overall, the game looks very impressive for playing on the 3DS, and the small screen really helps to diminish the lower-res textures. If MGS3 looks this good now, I wonder just how much better it would have looked had they not of downgraded the graphics. I dare say it would have looked better than RE: Revelations.

Has there been given a reason why the graphics been downgraded? I don't remember hearing of an explanation being given.

i tried it too although i didn't finish it yet

graphics are just ''ok'' with the 3D turned off, but with 3D at max the graphics get really good and i can say i like the depth of the 3D in this game

i like the controls too, although i would like some motion controls options

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Downloading now- I'm hoping that this demo is good, because I'm really on the fence about buying this, and this could be what finalises my decision either way.

I played it, and got turned off it on my first playthrough, mostly because of the controls. The game begs for the use of the Circle Pad Pro, so it would be a shame if they don't implement it's use for the full game.

As for the graphics, the 3D depth is amazing (on par with RE:Revelations), yet the graphics are a bit downgraded and the frame-rate is a bit on the lowish side, possibly because it's only a demo.

Downgraded compared to what? Comapared to the PS2 version, or the version that was originally shown?

And yeah, I used the Circle Pad Pro while playing the demo. I had no problems with the controls using it.

I downloaded it and play it yesterday. I will buy the game after I can put my hands on a Circle Pad Pro. The controls are almost the same of Peace Walker on the PSP.

The original PS2 version. Mostly in the long distance department, there seems to be more low poly details. Again, this could be because of it being a demo only, so it's more of an observation.

I'm just not fond of using the XYBA buttons for camera controls, so the second analog is a must for me (that's also one of the reasons that put me off the Metal Gear games from the PSP, the lack of a second analog).

The demo wasn't quite as good as the RE:Revelations one, but I liked the whole stealth thing, as well as discovering the health benefits of the snake only after eating one xD The 3D effect is insane- the only game where I think I'll have to play on half 3D :o

Most likely whatever issuses there are in the demo will be absent from the full retail version. But probably my biggest complaint is the lower-res screen the 3DS has. When you get to the part with swamp, you're able to shoot a bee's nest out of a tree. From a distance, this is very hard to see, and you almost just have to guess where to aim. It could also be the absense of AA, too. Regardless, it makes me wonder if it's the same way on the PS2 version.

Technically this game is a mess, especially when you look at Resident Evil: Revelations, which looks smooth and georgous.

The framerate of Metal Gear is far from smooth, looks like 20FPS to me.

On the other hand, this seems to be the very old demo they showed before and I read in reviews that the framrate has been improved in the final game. I hope so, but nonetheless this demo will many people turn away from the game.
