Wii Fit weighs into North America on May 20?

Earlier on this week we reported that Wii Fit appeared to have been confirmed for Europe this spring. And today its North American release date just might have slipped out. Oh, and there’s also the little fact that the title has sold over 1 million units just over a month since being on sale.

In a story over at 1UP reporting the early success of Wii Fit, the site states that the software and Balance Board will appear on North American shores on May 20 this year:

“Wii Fit is expected to be one of the year’s biggest sellers both in Japan and abroad. North Americans can expect to see the game on May 20th… by which time presumably they’ll have that ‘plus-sized’ Western balance board properly stress tested and ready for use.”

News of the game’s unit sales was unveiled by Japan’s Nikkei business news earlier on today.

There’s no official word from Nintendo yet, but we’ll arrive panting and sweating back to our keyboards as soon as we find out.

this sucks

but if they can't even meet demand in japan, then why would they release in US/Euro where they def wouldn't meet the demand?

i'd be interested to see how many they are producing a month

hopefully they'll have at least 2mil in the first month of launch for europe and at least 2mil in the first month of launch for us

I suspect one of the main reasons for this delay is that the Western balance board had to be redesigned in order to support people who are over 300 pounds.

I suspect the delay was because the WiiFit is a system seller and there's no point launching a system seller in January (great month for WiiFit) when there's no systems to sell it on.

 

Plus it's supply constrained in Japan so there'd be no WiiFits even.
