Forums - Sony Discussion - Post your first impressions of PS Vita here

I purposely did not view a Vita in person, until i got home with my Wifi Vita this afternoon, it was AMAZING! :D

The Vita looks slick from every angle, the audio crystal clear, the screen razor sharp with an impeccable bezel, the face buttons and D-pad have that perfect amount of click to them when pressed, the shoulder buttons have a nice trigger feel to them when pressed, and the Analog sticks are the best of any handheld device to date.

There are some quirks to the system, like the lack of ability to use buttons to navigate menus, hide icons, make folders for icons, medium battery life, and ergonomics to using touch controls with regular controls (I imagine the first few can be fixed via firmware, and the latter two via a power grip accessory).

But as far as actually playing games on the system; it is a dream, and I never want to wake up! :P

@TGM Yeah, too rich for my blood. I don't get much often but enough to buy the latest and greatest games on a system. I bought my 3DS a week after it launched with no games(got Street Fighter a week after that and so on), but I still had fun with it by playing some DS games and trying out the new features.

Anybody played the free AR games yet?

Well, I'll be damned. Son of a bitch came with an 8GB memory card! I already have a 32GB card, and the starter kit came with a 4GB card. I'm in memory card heaven!

May as well start buying your games on the PSN Store then.

As inflated as the memory card prices are, proprietary format and all, I did a rough estimate and realized the "buy your own storage" option isn't that much worse cost-wise than buying retail chip games.

Figure a lot of PS Vita games are about 1GB meaning, you may be able to store about 30 games on a 32GB chip at about $100. PSN Store "discounts" for DD games tend to be about 10% or $3-5 per game. So, for about 30 games with an average DD discount of $3 per title, that's $90 off retail, or $10 over the cost of a 32GB card. The difference increases with the lower storage cards.

Of course there are still a lot of people who insist on having physical media to sell or just like to display all their game cases, but some of those with hundreds of titles, who generally don't sell old games (hooray for collecting/hoarding), don't want to make their living rooms look like GameStop.

Technically, you don't need to keep everything on memory cards though. Just what you want immediately available. Sony's Content Manager Assistant makes it easy to manage and store games/content without keeping everything on memory card. Works on Windows or Mac too. The Content Manager also allow you to juggle multiple PSN accounts on your PS Vita by creating a backup of any account set up on the PSV, which can be restored at any time.

In a nutshell, set up account A on PSV. Create a back up to PC. Remove account from PSV. Set up account B on PSV. Create a back up to PC. Restore account A to PSV whenever wanted. Restore account B whenever wanted.

I bought the 8gb card since it seemed the most efficient in terms of $/gb. I plan on swapping games in and out rather than just buying more 8gb cards (or the bigger one if they ever become more cost effective).

Could you guys give some impressions on the battery life? That is my biggest annoyance with the vita.

My impressions are pretty decent.  About the same as the 3DS maybe a touch less depending on what you're doing.  generally speaking, I can easily charge it overnight and it works just fine for me all day, though I don't play more than 6-8 hours, and I do a lot of shit in between.  It goes into sleep mode pretty quickly (like a minute of being idle) to save power, but I'd say it gets about 6-8 hours on average.  I've had mine on and off all day, sometimes for as much as an hour at a time, maybe 5 hours total today...and it's still at 40% battery.

Not as good as PSP/DS, about the same as 3DS.

My Console Library:

PS5, Switch, XSX

PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1, WiiU, Wii, GCN, N64 SNES, XBO, 360

3DS, DS, GBA, Vita, PSP, Android

That is good to hear, I am pleased with the 3DS battery life so if the vita is close then I will be happy.

Do you have it set so you recieve notifications? I believe the PS light will turn blue, or you can set it  to notify you with like a pop-up. I was talking to my PS3 friends from my Vita earlier.

That's why SCE made those transfer utilities, not that they don't want to sell as many memory cards as possible, especially considering they own the entire PSV chip market until 3rd parties release theirs.

I've already bumped the ceiling on the 8GB card that came with the 3G between demos, one full game and a couple PSP games. A 16GB card would be a better fit for anyone keeping multiple games installed with space for demos as they come out and the 32GB cards are ideal while offering the lowest cost per GB if you can get swallow paying $100 for a memory card.

I already did the multiple memory card thing with the PSP and while it seems a bit unbelievable that one wouldn't want to be troubled to just swap out cards depending on which games you want to play (really no different than changing game chips), I generally left the same card in that had the best titles installed for this very reason.
