Forums - Gaming - Yoda and Darth Vader in Soul Calibur 4

I like how everyone was so thrilled, then the new breaks they're in seperate versions and it killed the buzz. =P

Isn't what everyone wants is a new Star Wars Fighting game? Yeah, I know there's some Playstation game like that. Teras Kasi or whatever, and it sucked, but it's been like ten years.  As it's been said several times, Lucas whores Star Wars out to everything, so how is it there isn't already a new Star Wars Fighter. Put Jar Jar Binks in it and I'll buy it just to beat the crap out of him with every other Star Wars character. =P

I think these additions are the dumbest shit ever.

Those of you mad at Namco should check the sales numbers!

There aren't complete numbers for Soul Edge or Soul Calibur on the site, however...

Soul Calibur 2, with gimmick characters, sold 3.25M between GC and PS2 alone. There aren't complete numbers for XBox.

Soul Calibur 3, without gimmick characters, sold 790K on PS2.

I'm guessing Soul Edge and Soul Calibur didn't reach 1M either, or the site would likely have shipment numbers for them. So it appears that over half the series' sales across 4 editions came from one version.

No surprise they went back to the exact same model of that game. Multi-plat; exclusive liscensed character in each version.

Maybe you'll be able to do Vader vs. Yoda in the arcade version? (I assume there's an arcade version...)

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

Is it just me or is Darth Vader saying "O-pen  O-pen" in the trailer?

You know what else sold well? Def Jam Icon. That doesn't mean it wasn't a shameless cash-in. I'm not saying this won't help the sales. I'm just saying I personally think it's ridiculous.

i am a huge star wars fan BUT after watching the video, THAT is just plain weird.... doesn't seem to 'fit'

Instead of Star Wars why didn't they get 1st party characters? Kratos would rock. And ah... Master Chief with energy sword? Nah, that still seems a little lame. Beats a viva pinata though.

I don't think this will affect the quality of the game, so I don't have a problem with them wanting to sell several times more copies. It IS a shameless cash-in in the sense that it will sell the game, but I don't think it does anyone any good if the game is simply less popular, except maybe some brand of SC elitists. Or SW elitists? Whatever.

I'm personally not excited for it. A full-fledged Star Wars fighter would be cool, but if I want to play a weapons-based 3D fighter, I still have SC2. I never got into the subtleties of fighters enough to need/want a lot of them.

BTW, none of the Def Jam games have ever been big hits, from what I can find.

Love the idea, but yoda will be just a cheap player to fight with. How the hell they gonna put a character in thats so short, if you do a horizontal attack, itll just go over his head?!?!

hahaha, this is gonna probably cause the whole "you cant choose yoda, hes cheating" issue like with goldeneye and oddjob, haha.

That so true, because Gon (the little orange dragon) from Tekken 3 is so dominant that any medium or high punch you do will just miss Gon and the fact that he has cool moves, so all my mates said he's a cheating player and I can't use him :P I belive Yoda will follow the same footstep as Gon, Why? Both of these games were made by Namco ;)

On Topic, doesn't the lightsaber slice though anything, even the Soul Calibur character's weapons? (OMG!!! chopping Ivy into mince meat!!!) Or is it that Nanco going to make a half baked light saber to avoid these problems.

Half baked.  As can be seen in the video it clashes with other swords, which of course looks ridiculous and out of place, but hey apparently some people don't care...

This is off-topic, but I never thought picking Oddjob was cheating.  It's extremely easy to get head shots on him while he's pretty much shooting at your knees.  Now Jaws might be considered cheating because he shoots at the normal character's head level, but he's also a much larger target.

On topic:  I've been a pretty big fan of SC since playing it on Dreamcast.  I'm not really good at fighting games, but I've liked the stories of the SC series.  I wasn't really a fan of the last character cash-ins, but this time it really irks me.  Vader and Yoda have no place in the SC world.  If Lucas and Namco wanted to rake in the dough they should've created a new game with the SC engine using all SW characters and Namco could release a true SC sequel for the fans of the series.
