Two days ago, Square Enix’s 1st Production Department — the division that comprises the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts teams — tweeted: “Next, ‘X’”. It didn’t seem like a big deal at the time, so we ignored it.

Then, about 15 hours ago, they tweeted: “Next, ‘IX’”. We decided to wait and see if they would keep going, and sure enough, just an hour ago, they tweeted: “Next, ‘VIII’”.

What does it mean? We have no idea! But if it is a countdown of some sort, we may not have to wait too long before we find out. Just keep your hopes under control, in case it turns out to be a Theatrhythm coffee mug or something.

Update: Two of our commenters point out that, taking timezones into account, the Twitter feed could simply be counting down to the release of Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy, which is out on February 16th in Japan. Doh!

Is it simply a release countdown? Does it have something to do with Type-0? Is it a new game? Who knows, but we'll find out soon.

Quite possibly may be. Hopefully it is something more than that though.

There is nothing Interesting SE could annouce. Most likely just a trailer,screens or both of remastered FFX, another port, or just another lame effort that futher devalues the FF brand Maybe they finally gonna put FF14 down? cancel VS?

Also if they choose, they can "devalue" their own brand because they can do so. They own it. Fans do not.

did they even countdown for FFXIII, FFXIII-2 or versus?

Maybe they're just trolling which I give them credit for.

If I were famous I so would troll my fans :D. Trolling is so much fun when your not so mean spirited about it.

I'm not sure, but I doubt this has anything to do with VS. They already stated that the next time we see it, the game will be in playable form. My guess would be E3 or TGS.

Considering how much of a fail their JPN presence was at E3 last year, they may bring Versus along to make up for it.

Yeah, I'd say they were type-0s. They meant to say "Next, 10".

Imagine the amount of people that are expecting it to stop at VII.

Though I definitely don't believe that this has any relation to Final Fantasy VII. I would not be suprised if the Vita actually would be the one to recieve that remake. They can't complain that it would take "dozens of years" or what-ever. It would have the graphical boost to satisfy the fans, and give them the experience they want. Not only that but development costs would be reduced significantly by not creating it for the HD consoles.
