Forums - Sales - Panasonic warns of $10bn annual loss

"Man this sucks. P.S America is making it more difficult for Japan to recover and they won't likely recover again. They will need to adapt unless they can devalue the yen."

Did you know the US is in sort of like a big Depression? (I know they call it 'The Great Recession') but many states are closing many vital services, and even California has been paying employees with ‘I Owe Yous’ for the past several years at times. (California used to have one of the largest economies in the world if it was it’s own country.)

Yes, I agree with you, big corporations adjusting the government to suit their themselves is a big problem in the states – and it hurts many people in the states too. But I think most of Panasonic’s US consumers are the ‘average middle class people’ getting squeezed from both sides and don’t have the money to buy a nice new Plasma TV.

It’s kinda sad really, most everybody loses out.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

The American government purposely savotauged Japan. They convinced Japan to inflate the yen. They spent years inflating the yen. But then Americas economy started taking a hit now the yen is way way to strong. The yen continues to be out of control. Now the US is in trouble financially and the Government is taking protectionist actions. Example Obama said he will give American corporations tax breaks and help to employ Americans. He said he will do everything possible to give American products an edge.

So how will Nintendo, Sony, Panasonic..etc...etc... recover while the yen is high not to mention America is making it as hard as possible to compete in the US. I think Nintendo will return to profitability and am sure Sony can as well and other Japanese companies. But they won't likely see as high profits as they used to anytime soon.

Global economy doesn't work that way. If Japan goes down U.S. will be in big trouble too. Therefore the U.S. won't purposely sabotage the Japan economy.

.

Well we all know that but America doesn't seem to mind. The US sees Japan as a huge threat their cars nearly killed the big three and their tech companies have posed a huge threat. America is doing everything it can to increase American production and kill off global competitors.

Obama has hurt Canada horribly now we are turning to China. The US has been hurting its trading partners for years. Also Japan's government is who said America helped them inflate the yen. Now that Japan's yen is so high they are doing everything they can to make it harder and more expensive for international corporations.

Also yes I understand the US is in a depression and on the verge of economic collapse. However the rest of the world is going through the exact same problems. Japan is going down the EU struggling other countries in Africa and the middle east and other stable countries also starting to struggle.

Protectionism will only hurt America and in turn the global economy. Plus America's unemployment rate is not that bad and the middle class should be able to survive. I have to say we are all in this together not one country against another this is a global economy.

Panasonic was hot for electronic products in the 90's but since that they only been famous for their high quality plasma TV:s.

I planned to buy a Panasonic plasma TV for a while but since then LEDs have catched up and are very aweomse so most consumers including me will buy a Samsung LED.

Strong yen and nature disasters last year are killing them like Sony... Hope they stay afloat because they make the best Plasmas out there.

Will they join Japan Display? They sold a plant to them. Sony Toshiba Hitachi will be state funded, just like Samsung has been state funded for decades.

You keep saying this.... its wrong.  The Japanese display Company isnt about state funding of the contributing members.

...and it is only for small to medium sized panels...

The state funded INCJ will acquire 70% of Japan display, so yes their small display panels will be state funded

and the other companies acquire 10% each... it is a joint venture aiming to make a profit, not a gift to the companies concerned.

But the money's coming from the state so its state funded.
