Marketing. You need to spend money to make money. They had to make ps3 ads for the price drop, and vita ads, not to mention the production of an entirely new console. Right now they are producing 4 consoles.

Just producing 4 million vitas would cost them 1B at 250 a pop.

TVs is a good portion, but nothing compared to the marketing of two big products, R&D and production of an entirely new console, along with games development.

This only means that he is expecting enormous software sales from the PS Vita. Perhaps a tie ratio of 10.0 within the first year is feasible in his opinion.

I guess so.... and at those prices that would do it.

I'm going to try and be as diplomatic as possible.

Isn't being profitable on the Vita hardware simply just profitable on the Vita hardware? Is he not also factoring in price drops within those 3 years? Doesn't this number also not include memory card sales and game sales?

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

You guys think the idea is so far fetched?
Does anyone not remember the PS2 and how Sony dominated Nintendo and Microsoft?

Not saying they will ever replicate PS2-level success, but they can bet #1 again next-gen. They aren't even that far behind MS this gen.
