Forums - Sales - EA: Origin Has Generated $100 Million in Sales with 9.3M Registered Consumers

IndustryGamers

EA today updated its numbers on the growing Origin digital distribution service. While Valve's Steam probably has nothing to worry about just yet, EA's Origin is doing well for itself with 9.3 million registered consumers since launch, which has led to over $100 million in non-GAAP revenues for the publisher.

Origin has several notable publishing agreements with third parties, including Warner Bros, THQ, Capcom and 11 others which the company just added to its roster.

Congrats Tough I would like if they stayed on Steam, rivalry is always the sign of a healthy industry. And honestly, if any company is able to become a rival with Steam its EA. Now with other partners, who knows, they might just become bigger then a blip on the radar

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Not exactly amazing considering a lot of those "potential" customers have been forced to register Origin account if they wanted to play Battlefield 3 or it's beta.

That doesn't seem too impressive. Steam had a revenue of 1 billion in 2010, and somewhere around 2 billion in 2011, with 40 million customers at the end of 2011

In other words, the average amount paid per Steam user is somewhere around 50 dollars, while the average for an origin user is just 11.

Considering Steam holds practically a monopoly on DD that's not too bad.
