Hmm... Metroid Prime 2 way way more enjoyable than 1 imo. One of very few games with such a long story mode that I actually fully replayed and enjoyed throughout. I guess the awesome multiplayer played a big part as well though ;)

OT: The greatest impact in gaming for me would be my first Halo:CE play-through. It's amazing atmosphere, exploration moments and fluid shooting action has never been replicated, again imo.

This.

The original Starfox in 1993, Resident Evil 4, and Super Mario Galaxy all blew my mind when I first played them.

Ocarina of Time, Morrowind, Pokemon Yellow and Link's Awakening would all be impact games for me.

This gen it'd be Skyrim and Mass Effect which have kind of blown me away.

This gen, the likes of Bioshock, Xenoblade Chronicles, The World Ends With You, both Super Mario Galaxies and the mainline Pokemon RPGs all took my breath away and had that special something which one can't really put a finger on

I didn't even read the OP.

Now that I have that out of the way......I think it's like movie special effects. We were amazed by many techniques film makers used to trick us into believing that what we saw on screen was really happening. Then, somewhere areound the early 90's, it just reached a bit of a wall. CGI made everything possible. Yeah, you can look back at a film like T2 and the CGI will jump out like a sore thumb but it's still impressive. There were still minor improvements but no "WOW!" Moments like when the first Star Wars movies came out. No huge impact.

With graphics in gaming, I think we've hit a similar wall, Good thing about gaming, though--we still have a long way to go as far as storytelling, immersion, interface, and such are concerned. We haven't seen the best, yet. You know what I mean- naked video game sex that's really hot instead of awkward.

Only four games this generation have truly blown me away.

  • 1. God of War III (2010)
  • 2. Bioshock (2007)
  • 3. Mass Effect 2 (2010)
  • 4. Gears of War (2006)

Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Alan Wake, LittleBigPlanet, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Mass Effect, Gears of War 1 & 3, Resistance 3, Rayman Origins, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion all deserve a shout out for being 100% brilliant. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has a chance at making my top 5 games if I ever bother to buy it and make time to play it.

to me, Metroid Prime 3, Pokémon Silver, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Uncharted 2 and Castlevania Lords of Shadow
