New IP could go both ways: New great Platformer, an epic RPG, awesome Action/Adventure, but at the same time, it could be just another Wii Fit

Yeah, it might only sell 20 million units. No one, especially not the investors, would want that!

Seriously though, I don't think that's Miyamoto's type of games. His latest IP was Pikmin (as far as I remember) so let's hope he brings something like that.

That's fine and all, but I expect them to give us more quality core games. All new IP's Nintendo has made are mostly casual. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think they have created any new core games. Although, if Nintendo does create a solid and worthwhile casual game(s) again, I'm all for it. If you look at my games, I buy a lot of casual games as well

I think their latest new IP was Pikmin... I think.

Yeah, that sounds about right. Even though, Nintendo (Reggie) would probably argue with you and claim Animal Crossing a 'core' game.

What about Soma Bringer or Xenoblade Chronicles (technically a new IP as the 'Xeno' preffix was just added to honour Takahashi).  Both of them are new IPs from a Nintendo 1st party during the 7th gen.  I assure you Pikmin was not Nintendo's last new IP, nowhere near it.

I would say Animal Crossing is a pretty core franchise for Nintendo, but it's certainly not the newest.

I am pretty psyched Miyamoto said in an interview he wants to create one last massive hit. This is awesome news when Miyamoto goes Nintendo will need his newer franchises. Nintendo will survive without Miyamoto but they will never find a replacement. I don't think the industry will ever find another developer this amazing. Their is no developer who comes close to creating this amount of huge franchoses.

I hope Nintendo can find more developers like Itigaki and Kojima. If they can find some more developers on that level then Nintendo is set. But they will be relying on Miyamoto's for long after he has left Nintendo.

True, it'll be a sad day when Mr. Miyamoto leaves the industry.

:) hopefully not a platformer, and not something kiddie.

RPG or Platformer.

There are already too many action games, and FPS is a bad genre.

There are certainly, even within the industry today, several brilliant minds on a similar level as Miyamoto. It's just that most of them never receieve the kinds of massive budgets and support he receives, so their games don't reach the same level of insane polish and recognition.

Examples that come to mind include Yu Suzuki, Yuji Naka, Masahiro Sakurai, Hideki Kamiya, Shinji Mikami etc.

OT: I'd love to see a hands-on simulation game from Miyamoto - something really visceral and engaging. Like operating a  ship or submarine from the inside, or a space-plane, or maybe even something that transforms into all of them

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

A WiiU/3DS crossover would be cool.

I want it to be a JRPG! PLEASE! Like Xenoblade!
