Forums - Sony - Sixaxis problem (PS3 controller)

My sixaxis controller won't connect wirelessly to my PS3, and doesn't even connect when it's wired half the time. I've tried resetting it, using different usb ports, plugging in the wire and different times and when it does connect to the PS3 using the wire, it says it's fully charged.

Anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it?

Note: This is not the dualshock 3, this is the original sixaxis controller.

UPDATE: Thanks everyone, but just like it randomly stopped working, it's now randomly started working again. I'll probably upgrade to a ds3 in a few weeks anyway.

I've never come across this problem before, I'm guessing it's not still under warranty?

Bad times,  you could always try trading it in at a CES and get a bit of money off a ds3

Well batteries wear out eventually.
Maybe that's what's happened.

Have you considered replacing the battery?

I don't think it's the battery, it was working perfectly fine for hours yesterday unplugged

there should be a little button on the back, right next to the screw. (u need something like a needle or so to be able to push it, theres only a very small opening).. its a reset-button. try to push it, and look if it works again.

edit: ah u tried.. damn. =(

I'm a Foreigner, and as such, i am grateful for everyone pointing out any mistakes in my english posted above - only this way i'll be able to improve. thank you!

With the wire plugged into the machine and controller. Switch off the console from the back then on again. If that doesn't work, switch it off again the press the PS button before switching on the console if that fails...I got nothing.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

I know you want a fix, but how about spare the cash and buy a dualshock? Very worth it! I just can't stand not having vibrations.

Well if not then your best bet is to play with your controller wired all the time, but honestly buy a dualshock, unless you can't spare the cash anyway.

Press the reset button on the bottom of the controller with a paperclip or something. While your PS3 is on, hit the PS button on the controller. That should re-pair it.

I had the same problem with sixaxis controller "synching up" via bluetooth. I talked to Sony tech support and he basically told me that the only way to have the controllers to sync up is to attached the usb cable and then press the PS button. To me, it was just a hog wash answer. I believe that he didn't know what to tell me for a solution. I told him that my ps3 wasn't operating like that when I first bought it. But to no avail, he gave me the same answer no matter what. So, having some knowledge about pc restoration, it lights a bulb in my head. So I asked him if I restore my ps3 to it's original factory setting will the games that I purchased will not be re-downloaded, and he told me I can re-download it five times. So, I decided to restore my ps3 to it's factory settings which means that I have to reformat the hard drive in my ps3. To my amazement, it worked!!! Everyting is synching up like it supposed to. So I am sharing this with you guys out there that this is the solution for your sixaxis nightmarea Don't worry you can still re-download the games you purchased previously. Just go to and sign in to your PSN and go to "download list" on the right top portion of the screen once in PSN. You'll see all of your download histories in there. I hope this helps. Enjoy!

There is a small reset button behind the controller, press that and connect the controller with the ps3 via usb. It may not work the first time so try until you hopefully get it to work.

Good luck!!
