Forums - Nintendo - Wii Fit gets dated in "Others"

Those in Europe will be happy to hear they are not going to have to wait TOO long for Wii Fit, it's expected in early spring.

Wii Fit huffs and puffs into Europe this spring

The Japanese have been getting to grips with the Balance Board and Wii Fit for over a month - measuring their BMI, hula hooping and stretching their way to better health. North Americans already knew that the title would be reaching them ‘early’ this year, and now we learn that Wii Fit will arrive in Europe this spring.

Continuing the Nintendo Wii’s onslaught to attract non-gamers, the Balance Board and Wii Fit includes around 40 mini-games that encourage players to exercise and have a good time all at once. Yes, apparently it is possible. Using clever weight-shifting techiques, gamers can experience the likes of ski jumping, slalolm and tightrope walking amongst many others. Spring 2008 is when it’ll arrive in Europe, reports Wiiz.

Key Features

  • Lean to block soccer balls, swivel hips to power hoop twirls or balance to hold the perfect yoga pose. As users stand on the Wii Balance Board, included with Wii Fitness, their body’s overall balance is tied to the game in a way they’ve never experienced before.
  • Wii Fitness also uses the Wii Balance Board for daily tests. These evaluate two key measures that a household can track via progress charts:
  • Body Mass Index (BMI): A weight evaluation based on a ratio of weight to height.
  • Wii Fitness Age: The Wii Fitness Age is measured by factoring the user’s BMI reading, testing the user’s center of gravity and conducting quick balance tests.
  • Wii Fitness includes more than 40 types of training activities designed to appeal to all members of a household. Training falls into four fitness categories:
  • Aerobic Exercise: 10-minute exercises that are designed to get the heart pumping.
  • Muscle Conditioning: Controlled motions using arms, legs and other body parts.
  • Yoga Poses: Classic poses that focus on balance and stretching.
  • Balance Games: Fun activities, such as ski jumping and heading soccer balls, that challenge the player’s overall body balance.

We’re knackered just at the prospect, but we’ll endeavour to bring you an exact release date as soon as we get it.

This looks better and better the more I see of it. I can't wait to see how it might be used in other games to. The fact that you have to use the wiimote in the boxing is just the start of what could be an amazing control system for some games.

The running part would be good if people had a running machine at home, which a fair few people do (usually being used as a clothes dryer though!)

Seems about right, 4-6 months after Japanese release is often ther case.

@mummel

too true.
I can understand it [to a point] with Wii Fit because they didn't have any idea how it would do, so Japan was a test... but many big Nintendo games still have way too long between Japan and Pal release.

Fitness domination starts when Nintendo says so. ;)
