American boxarts in general have more action going on, not just Nintendo games (look up Pikmin boxarts). For example, Final Fantasy games have just their title on a white background in Japan and Europe, but in America the boxart usually shows one or more of the main protaganists. |
I like the Japanese box arts more for some reason. They, in my opinion, look much cleaner and colorful. I also don't like when Nintendo thinks they need to change a happy face to an angry/frowny face for the American box arts... why Nintendo? Why?
Wow! the FF box arts are pretty boring though for Japan.

It looks nice... His mood is just altered, no big deal. It doesn't make it less pretty imho. Maybe not as appealing to you, but it's still nice looking.
