Forums - Microsoft - Xbox 720 'will support Blu-ray, might not play used games' - report

This again! Just like 360 was going to blu-ray support, just like Wii was going to get blu-ray add-on, just like WiiU is going to get blu-ray. And how can Microsoft stop supporting used games?
It's not like it's illegal to buy/play used games. I think Microsoft will be more interested in combating pirated games and having their systems modded.

Apart from the Blu-Ray bit (which seems obvious to me as being likely) the rest sounds well dodgy IMHO.

And could cost them the hardware race! I know I buy lots of games second hand myself, and most ppl I know do. Not just that, but remember when the PS and PS2 exploded when piracy was in gears? The first few mod chips made those systems so appealing, people could have hundreds of games free!

A DRM system for physical copies could prove disastrous as a strategy, I don't believe MS is foolish enough to do that, especially given how business-wise they have proven throughout this last gen.

Great Scott, that's heavy Doc!

Heard enough rumors lately it's time to announce the thing and give us something real to talk about.

Isn't blu ray Sony's proprietary format? I can not imagine microsoft using it, unless they are using a disc based system that has the same capacity as blu ray, but their own.

Also I would have imagined the nextbox would move away from optical discs and maybe employ flash technology next gen. Plus 50GB may seem a lot now, but come next gen it could become very restricting to put a game on one disc like dual layer dvds have been this gen towards mid-end of the cycle.

I call bull, Microsoft has always talked down on Blu Ray. Now that Sony has streamlined another format, I still don't think they will bend. I remember two years ago when Apple and Microsoft were both against Blu Ray and making it publicly known.

apple is one of BDA member and Win7 use support BD for selling point

Come on guys, that used games thing will NEVER go ahead. Ever.

Quote me on that- I'll film myself eating a hat if it ends up happening.

~~~~ Mario Kart 8 drove far past my expectations! Never again will I doubt the wheels of a Monster Franchise! :0 ~~~~
I call bullshit on this. No way would MS do either of those things.
No, it isn't. Sony is a member of the blu-ray consortium, a band of guys who are essentially responsible for the standardization of Blu-Ray. It is not a proprietary Sony format that they just lease out to other manufacturers, at least not directly.
